BESIX Group is mobilising its full in-house expertise for BESIX RED’s development, Matisse 16. Multiple BESIX entities are joining forces to create this sustainable, vibrant urban hub in Evere, Brussels, combining offices, housing, retail and public spaces.

BESIX Real Estate Development (BESIX RED) has appointed Jacques Delens and Vanhout, both subsidiaries of BESIX Group, as the main contractors for Matisse 16, its flagship mixed-use project in Evere (Belgium).
Their appointment follows earlier contributions from other Group entities, including Franki Foundations for the substructure works, and BESIX Power and ComTIS Energy as co-financiers of the project’s ESCO. ComTIS Energy will also operate the ESCO over the long term.
Together, these entities exemplify BESIX Group’s integrated, multidisciplinary approach to designing and delivering high-quality urban developments.

Matisse 16, a new urban landmark at the gateway to Brussels
Encompassing 42,300 m², Matisse 16 is being developed as a forward-looking mixed-use and ESG-driven project that comprises premium offices, residential units, coliving accommodation, retail and public amenities, all set within a carefully designed landscape. Conceived by award-winning architecture practice Neutelings Riedijk in collaboration with Brussels-based Axent, Matisse 16 is set to offer a vibrant and inclusive urban environment at the entrance to the capital.
Matisse 16 is strategically located next to NATO and at the crossroads of main transport routes, including the Léopold III Boulevard linking Brussels Airport to the European quarter. The development is set to become the centrepiece of a new exemplary urban and multimodal hub. The adjacent Bordet railway station places both the EU District and Brussels city centre within ten minutes’ reach, enhancing connectivity for future residents and users.

Leveraging in-house expertise
The development is a strong example of BESIX Group’s ability to deliver end-to-end solutions by drawing on the complementary strengths of its subsidiaries. From BESIX RED’s leadership in real estate development to Franki Foundations’ geotechnical expertise and the general contracting expertise of Jacques Delens and Vanhout, Matisse 16 illustrates the power of an integrated value chain in action.
BESIX RED has chosen BESIX Power and ComTIS Energy to function as its ESCO to power Matisse 16. ComTIS Energy’s capabilities have been complemented with BESIX Power’s expertise in the field of project financing. The result is predictable operating costs, fewer handovers, and clear accountability.

Key milestones
With foundation works progressing on schedule, the appointment of Jacques Delens and Vanhout marks the beginning of the next major construction phase. Structural works are set to begin in the coming months, with entire project completion expected by mid-2028.
