In May 2024, Aerospacelab began construction on its new Megafactory (Charleroi, Belgium), a state-of-the-art facility designed to significantly boost space manufacturing capacity in Europe. Work began on 16 May and is progressing according to schedule.

To ensure that this state-of-the-art facility is up and running in record time (operational in 2026), Aerospacelab and Sambrinvest have secured strategic partnerships with builders, engineering firms and equipment suppliers, including BESIX and its partner Galère, which are responsible for the foundations, shell, facades and finishing works, as well as managing and coordinating the co-contractors.

Construction activities

Geothermal drilling is currently under way, while excavations have already been completed. To date, a total of 562 foundation piles and two large cranes have already been installed by BESIX-Galère to facilitate assembly of the structural elements and ensure effective management of the heavy loads.

The next stages will involve the start of structural work in the first quarter of 2025, with completion of the building's interior floor scheduled for the end of the third quarter of 2025. This will be followed by the installation of the specialist systems, including the electrical and mechanical systems.
