Our colleagues in the Middle East have been making great progress on their projects in the UAE, Qatar and Saudi Arabia recently, so it’s time for an update! Discover their latest challenges, milestones and accomplishments below.

Let's dive into the exciting world of the UAE, specifically Dubai, where things are bustling at the Dubai Waste-to-Energy facility! The external facade works are advancing steadily, giving the building a more defined outline with each passing day. BESIX's ancillary buildings are almost ready for handover, and the construction of the facility entry building is now complete.
But that's not all! Our partner Hitachi has recently executed the enabling works, ensuring that the facility is now fully prepared for the first waste fire, like igniting the boiler and steam-blowing. This is a huge milestone that brings us one step closer to our goal of producing clean, sustainable energy.
In the same emirate, the construction of the Dubai Uptown Tower is approaching delivery, with authorised inspections being underway and the hotel floors having been delivered. As for the atrium building, located next to the main tower, concrete works are now complete and civil, MEP and façade works have commenced. Also, the team has launched several safety campaigns and recognised several colleagues for their outstanding safety performance.
Furthermore, the Dubai Shindaga Corridor is progressing well, with the concrete works on the 850 m Main Bridge, the most significant part of the project, being completed. In parallel, our colleagues are working on the underpasses, a one-lane ramp and a pumping station for stormwater drainage.
A last project in Dubai is Atlantis The Royal. Although this mega project was inaugurated earlier this year, that doesn’t mean that our teams have disappeared from the site. While the hotel part is fully in use now, the apartments are in the de-snagging process. With safety as a top priority on-site, the project team has achieved an impressive cumulative of 62 million man-hours without LTI.
In Abu Dhabi (UAE), BESIX Middle East is working on several projects as well. For example, on the Zayed City Schools project, where the team has reached a level below the roof just eight months into the project. In addition, they achieved a significant accomplishment of around 770,000 man-hours without any LTI!
Works are also progressing well on the two large museum projects in Abu Dhabi. Firstly, the team on the Guggenheim Museum is gaining momentum, with the construction of steel structures and architectural exposed columns ramping up. Their next target is to prepare designated areas for façade installation.
Secondly, there is the Zayed National Museum, where the wings’ cantilever scaffolding is currently being removed. This means the finished product is slowly taking shape. The pods are progressing as well, with external cladding and floor casting works being underway. Lastly, the Timeline Garden is taking shape with 69 out of 102 trees planted and rammed earth work underway.
Now onto Qatar, where our colleagues of MIC Construct are currently participating in several projects. The first one is Lusail Towers. The podium façades and external landscaping are nearing completion, while the internal finishing works are picking up pace. The project is now clearly advancing and is aiming for completion by the end of the year.
In the port of Ras Laffan, the North Field Expansion Project is well underway, with the casting of the precast blocks is to be completed this month. Worth to mention here are the two impressive safety records the teams achieved: 177 days without a recordable event and more than one million man-hours without LTI! Furthermore, MIC Construct is also working on the rehabilitation of dolphins in the port of Ras Laffan. Here, several activities are making progress, such as the painting works, jacket assembly and underwater rock removal.
Last but not least, there is the Oxagon project, including the creation of a port city on the location of Duba port on Saudi Arabia’s Red Sea coast. Our colleagues are responsible for constructing 4.6km of quay walls. Currently, soil investigation works are ongoing and the teams are preparing to fully mobilise the site soon, while continuing engineering works.
Congratulations to all the BESIX Middle East teams with the progress they’re making on each of these impressive projects and their positive approach towards safety. We are looking forward to the next update. Keep up the good work!
