Week of 29 May

1. Another hospital, made by BESIX Watpac (Australia)

Congrats to our colleagues in Queensland! BESIX Watpac has indeed been awarded the contract for the A$710m (approx. 430 million euros) Ipswich Hospital Stage 2 Expansion. The project will deliver 200 additional beds and create 1,700 construction jobs. The expansion covers among others the development of a new purpose-built acute clinical service building, a new emergency department, six new operating theatres, a satellite medical imaging service as well as a new Central Sterilisation Service Department. Congrats to our Australian colleagues for this new contract!

2. Great progress on the Tour Triangle (France)

The Tour Triangle is really starting to get out of the ground now! The first core walls of the tower have been poured! Carried out by BESIX France, the Tour Triangle will be a 180-metre high glass pyramid and has been designed to comply with the BREEAM Excellent (minimum) and HQE Exceptional environmental certifications, as well as the Effinergie label.

Way to go, Paris team!

3. BESIX Unitec takes up temporary residence in Barendrecht station (The Netherlands)

No, BESIX Unitec has not moved to new offices along the tracks… They converted Barendrecht station, near Rotterdam in the Netherlands, for a few days into an operations centre where more than 100 employees worked at getting the 9 tracks safely up and running. Impressive job BESIX Unitec!

BESIX Unitec is a key player in the automation of large network infrastructures, such as railway infrastructure. They equip tunnels with the most modern safety techniques, (emergency) lighting, sprinkler systems, air purification, camera surveillance, etc. for a safe and smooth traffic flow.

4. BYC visit to the dry dock at Zeebrugge (Belgium)

Last Friday, the BESIX Young Community (BYC) in Belgium held their first Site Tour & Afterwork Event of the year at the dry dock in Zeebrugge. About 25 BYC colleagues were enthusiastically guided around by the site team and treated with French fries and snacks afterwards.

The BESIX Young Community, or BYC, brings together BESIX employees under the age of 36, in particular through the organisation of activities aimed at creating a network and a community. Such communities exist in several countries where the Group is active.

In the dry dock in Zeebrugge, the COTU consortium, of which BESIX is part, is currently building the 8 elements that will form the Scheldt Tunnel in Antwerp, in the framework of the Oosterweel project. When the elements are ready, the dry dock will be flooded and the tunnel elements towed to Antwerp where they will be submerged, assembled, and connected to the riverbanks.

And then this… Brussels 20 km race

Last Sunday some 55 BESIX colleagues participated in the Brussels 20 km race! Proudly representing our company colours, among the 45,000 runners of the 43d edition of the famous Brussels competition.

Congrats to all participants for racing with courage under the Brussels sun!

We all know that the important thing is to participate, but let’s nevertheless warmly congratulate our BESIX champion, Benoît Pâques, from affiliate Wust, who ran the 20 kms in only 1:12:01!
