Week of 28/4

1. Getting aligned on safety during the BESIX Global Safety Time Out (worldwide)

Last Monday, 28 April, BESIX teams across the world took part in our annual Global Safety Time Out, which serves as a valuable opportunity to pause, reflect and realign on how we keep ourselves and each other safe. It was a meaningful moment to assess how we operate and commit to meaningful actions to raise our safety standards. A big hank you to everyone who participated. Let’s keep this momentum going!

And stay tuned, we will share the results of this important event soon!

2. BESIX Watpac starts build of Woolworths' new Chilled and Fresh Distribution Centre (Australia)

Last week marked the official start of construction on Woolworths’ new Chilled and Fresh Distribution Centre just outside Sydney. New South Wales Deputy Premier Prue Car, Blacktown City Mayor Brad Bunting and BESIX Watpac CEO Mark Baker were present. Once complete, this 93,000 m² facility will be the largest temperature-controlled distribution centre in the southern hemisphere, set to handle over 6,000 tonnes of produce a day. The project is expected to create more than 4,000 construction jobs and 700 permanent roles by mid-2027. Best of luck to everyone involved!

3. Last stretch for Oxagon team (Saudi Arabia)

In Oxagon (Saudi Arabia), our BESIX Middle East team is making good progress on the port of NEOM development project, as it nears the final stages of construction. Several packages are being prepared for handover, such as the Marine Services Hub where final inspections and snagging are underway. Meanwhile, dredging is moving at pace, quay wall piling is nearly complete, and work on tie rods and capping beams is coming along nicely. Good luck with the last stretch, team Oxagon!

The port of NEOM development project includes the design and build of over three kilometres of quay walls, upgrading facilities, and installing advanced port equipment.

4. BESIX Infra wins Aquafin Award (Belgium)

At the 18th edition of the Aquafin Awards, BESIX Infra proudly took home the title of ‘Best Contractor’. The team was recognised for its commitment to continuously improving the quality of work across the many projects they are realising for Aquafin. These annual awards highlight the contractors and engineering firms Aquafin has collaborated with most successfully over the past year. Well done, team BESIX Infra!

And then this... Belgian ambassador to the UAE visits Tech Agro (UAE)

The Belgian ambassador to the United Arab Emirates and star chef Mallory Gabsi visited Tech Agro, one of the largest farms in the country and a project supported by BESIX Invest in the Middle East. Through the use of advanced technologies, TechAgro develops sustainable farming methods that support the country’s food security goals. As an equity partner, we're contributing to smarter, more water-efficient agriculture and long-term sustainability. Find out how the visit went in this video or by clicking on the picture below!

PS: we presented this project in the 121 edition of INSIDE on p. 29 - check it out if you don’t recall!
