Week of 1 June
1. Schelle goes electric (Belgium)
At BESIX Schelle Groep, the new batch of fully electric vans is ready to hit the road. Eleven Ford E‑Transit Courier vehicles are now being deployed across the entities, with two assigned to BESIX Infra, four to BESIX Unitec and five to Belasco. This marks another step in electrifying our fleet and making more sustainable choices in daily operations, visible not only on our sites but also on public roads. It is part of a broader effort to reduce emissions and progressively move towards a lower‑carbon mobility approach across BESIX.
2. LNG Jetty: the 1st pile is in (Mozambique)!
The first pile has just been driven at Afungi, marking a clear step forward on the LNG jetty project in Mozambique. This initial pile signals the start of full piling operations on site, with teams and equipment now fully mobilised and working in close coordination. The LNG jetty will play a key role in the broader Mozambique LNG development, supporting the country’s growing energy infrastructure. Congratulations to all teams involved on reaching this milestone!
3. Lambermont Viaduct: one side done, one side to go (Belgium)
On the Lambermont viaduct project in Verviers, the northbound deck has now been fully rehabilitated! Traffic was successfully switched onto this renewed side last week, allowing teams to move straight into the next phase. Works have already started on the southbound deck, with the project progressing in carefully managed stages to keep two lanes open in each direction. This rehabilitation is part of a broader effort to upgrade and strengthen the E42/A27 infrastructure, ensuring the viaduct can safely accommodate traffic demands in the long term. Kudos to all teams for delivering this project in a challenging live-traffic environment.
4. First concrete pour on the Center of Excellence (UAE)
When you think of a “first concrete”, you picture a few speeches, a symbolic pour and a group photo. But this one felt different. It took place on 20 May, which also happens to be World Bee Day... a fitting coincidence when you realise the milestone was for the Centre of Excellence. This is not your typical project, but a large-scale campus combining advanced canine facilities, veterinary care, training, and a fully integrated honey production ecosystem.
With around 60,000 m² of built-up area and no fewer than 28 buildings across the site, this is not “just” a facility. It’s a complete world, and it officially began to take shape with that first pour. The moment was shared by a group of committed colleagues, a few four-legged guests, and, of course, some honey tasting. Stay tuned, as a full story and video of this unusual ceremony will follow!
And then this... biking against cancer
Colleagues across the company have teamed up for “Kom op tegen Kanker”, taking on the challenge of cycling 1,000 kilometres together. The initiative brings together riders from different teams, combining their individual efforts into a collective journey in support of cancer research and patient care. Beyond the kilometres covered, the effort reflects a strong sense of solidarity and commitment, both within our teams and towards the wider community. Thank you to all participants!
