Week of 27 November
1. Mohammed VI: The shiniest tower in Africa (Morocco)
Recently, our colleagues in Rabat, Morocco conducted illumination tests on the façade of the nearly completed Mohammed VI Tower.
BESIX and Six Construct are building this emblematic 250-metre high tower in the Moroccan capital. The tower will meet the highest environmental standards with LEED Gold and HQE certifications and on top of its stunning appearance it is packed with innovations developed by BESIX’s Engineering Department.
Check out the video below to catch a glimpse of its mesmerizing lighting effects, visible from a 50-kilometre distance all round. What an amazing tower, congrats M6T team!
2. Dubai Waste-to-Energy featured in Dubai Municipality branding video (UAE)
On November 16th, the Dubai Municipality YouTube channel released a branding video highlighting some of Dubai’s ambitious sustainability goals and facilities. By 2040, the city aims to achieve a remarkable 200 % increase in green spaces, employing AI robotics for landscaping in Warsan Nursery. In the same time-span, Dubai aspires to expand conservation areas by 60 %, including iconic locations like the Ras Al Khor Wildlife Sanctuary. Amidst these impressive initiatives, the Warsan Waste-to-Energy Plant, featured between minutes 1:30 and 1:40. Designed and built by BESIX, this amazing project is set for completion in the coming year. Once fully operational, the plant will be able to power up to 135,000 homes by burning waste.
BESIX is incredibly proud to contribute to making Dubai more beautiful, sustainable, pioneering, and liveable.
3. 1. Groundbreaking ceremony launches construction of new AUD 90 million Hospital in Adelaide (Australia)
Last week, BESIX Watpac celebrated the commencement of construction at Eastwood Private Hospital in Adelaide, with a groundbreaking ceremony and a Welcome to Country & Smoking Ceremony performed by the local Traditional Owners from Kuma Kaaru. This hospital project addresses the growing healthcare needs of South Australians and aims at providing advanced medical facilities across its impressive six-story structure. The project – worth 90 million Australian dollars (82 million euros) - will include a perioperative floor with six theatres, a 51-bed ward, a multilevel car park, a vibrant café and retail area, and comprehensive medical imaging and pathology services. Notably, Eastwood Private Hospital is part of the 11 major health infrastructure projects led by BESIX Watpac across Australia. Congratulations BESIX Watpac for this beautiful new project in healthcare!
4. New control centre in Scheveningen soon wind- and waterproof (The Netherlands)
We also have news from Scheveningen, where our BESIX Nederland colleagues are building a new control centre of the harbour. They have finished the structural works and the building is now also almost wind- and waterproof.
In 2022, the municipality of The Hague awarded the design, build, and maintenance contract to the BESIX Nederland and Vialis consortium for the new operating centre on the northern side of the port in Scheveningen, which, in the future, will operate the harbour, the tunnels, bridges, and bollards. Congratulations BESIX NL on this major milestone!
And then this... Franki Foundations attends the Climate Fresk
Our colleagues from Franki Foundations recently had the chance to attend the Climate Fresk workshop, conducted by Carbon Footprint Consultant Paul Van Osselaer. Through his presentation of scientific facts and figures from IPCC reports (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change), attendees gained a better understanding of the challenges posed by climate change.
Good job Franki Foundation, for reminding us that we must all take action for a greener future!
