Week of 28 April
1. First event at One New Zealand Stadium
Last weekend, the very first event took place at the newly opened One New Zealand Stadium in Christchurch, as the Super Rugby Pacific Super Round got underway. On Friday night, 25,237 fans filled the indoor venue for the opening match of a three-day rugby programme. Recently delivered by BESIX Watpac, the multi-use stadium is designed to host events all year round, from sport to concerts. The project was completed after more than 2.39 million hours of work, without a single lost time injury. Congratulations, colleagues!
2. First beams arrive in Gabon
In Gabon, BESIX and its partners are replacing an ageing single‑lane bridge from the 1970s with a new 200‑metre structure featuring two lanes and sidewalks. The project uses Matière’s Unibridge® system, allowing prefabricated elements to be assembled efficiently. Last week, the first beams arrived on site, marking another tangible step forward. The bridge is part of a wider infrastructure programme in Libreville, which also includes two urban flyovers and four pedestrian bridges.

3. BESIX Infra team praised at Aquafin Awards (Belgium)
A project team from BESIX Infra has been recognised at the Aquafin Awards as Public Domain Project Team of the Year. The award went to the team behind Stadslus, a complex renewal project in the historic city centre of Antwerp, where sewerage systems, road surfaces and tram tracks in several streets were upgraded. The project involved many technical and organisational challenges and could only succeed thanks to close cooperation and clear agreements between all partners. Last week, Stadslus was officially inaugurated. Congratulations to the whole BESIX Infra team!
4. BESIX NL represented at largest job fair in the Netherlands
Last week, BESIX Nederland and BESIX Unitec Nederland took part in the National Career Fair in Amsterdam, the largest career event in the Netherlands for students and young professionals. The fair offered a great opportunity to meet engineers, project managers and other technical profiles interested in working on meaningful projects and helping to shape the future.

And then this... BESIX at International Polar Foundation symposium (Luxembourg)
Last week, our COO Construction, Jan Van Steirteghem, spoke at the International Polar Foundation symposium about Andromeda. This project for a new research station in Antarctica is an initiative supported by several countries. The event brought together scientists, policymakers, industry leaders and innovators to exchange views on topics such as climate science, sustainable infrastructure, renewable energy and space technologies. Jan shared BESIX’s experience with the Princess Elisabeth Antarctica Research Station, which we delivered in 2009. Exciting to see how this project continues to develops!
The International Polar Foundation also released the first rendering of the Andermeda station. You can find it here on their LinkedIn page.
