Week of 23 October
1. Flamant blows out 45 candles (Belgium)
Just two weeks ago, the interior specialist Flamant celebrated its 45th anniversary during the 33rd edition of Voka Open Bedrijvendag*. And what higher honour to commemorate this event than to have Prime Minister Alexander De Croo to congratulate on almost half a century of Belgian entrepreneurship?
Their headquarters in Geraardsbergen welcomed nearly 2,000 visitors, and through their showroom, winter bar and Christmas pop-up store, they also managed to donate a 1,400 euro check to Think Pink for breast-cancer awareness month. Hip hip hooray for Flamant!
*Voka is the Flemish business federation in Belgium. This federation organises a.o. an annual open-door day for the public at its members’ sites.
2. Piling work has started at Nordhavn (Denmark)
Exciting developments are underway at the Nordhavn Tunnel project site, as our colleagues in Denmark get ready to dive into the next phase of construction. Having established a substantial sandbank as their primary working platform, our colleagues’ focus is now the set up of the actual construction pit, which will need approximately 4,000 meters of sheet piling.
In collaboration with their partner, MT Højgaard, our teams are placing massive sheet piles totalling an impressive 5,000 tonnes, transported from the Czech Republic, on both sides of the tunnel track. This process is instrumental in creating a watertight construction pit, ensuring the safe casting of the tunnel.
What's truly remarkable is that work is simultaneously progressing at three different locations along the tunnel track and that this dynamic effort will continue for the next 6-7 months! That way, Copenhagen will be noise-free by summer 2024. Clap-clap for our colleagues in Denmark!
3. Woman power (Australia)
We are thrilled to announce that Katie Garay from BESIX Watpac has received the ‘Women in Building’ Award at the Master Builders Queensland Awards. Through her steady leadership and unwavering commitment, Katie has directed the Townsville Bulk Sugar Terminal Roof Replacement Project, which included refurbishing and replacing the terminal’s roof, with a total cost exceeding AU$5 million. Our most sincere congratulation, Katie! You are a true inspiration for all women in our sector.
4. BESIX and LuxTP join forces with CLE to construct the Luxembourg Red Cross House (Grand Duchy of Luxembourg)
BESIX and LuxTP S.A. have been awarded the contract to build the House of the Luxembourg Red Cross by developer IKO Real Estate, in partnership with the Compagnie Luxembourgeoise d’Entreprise (CLE). Construction work is due to start soon in the heart of the Howald City district of Luxembourg City. By the end of 2026, the joint venture will deliver a 13,400 m² low-carbon concrete building, which will reunite the new headquarters of the Luxembourg Red Cross and all the services offered by the association. It is always an honour to put our expertise at the service of a leading social player. Best wishes on this new consortium and magnificent new project, LuxTP & BESIX colleagues!
And then this...Belgian Ambassador and BESIX representative meet with Crown Prince of Fujairah (UAE)
Last week His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi, Crown Prince of the Emirate of Fujairah, welcomed the Ambassador of Belgium to the UAE. The Ambassador was accompanied by Belgian Defense and Commercial Attachés, and by our colleague Elias Sfeir, General Manager Ajman Sewerage. Among other topics, they discussed trade routes and maritime security, as well as the longstanding ties between the Emirate of Fujairah and Belgium, including in the economic field through the activities and projects of BESIX. We at BESIX and Six Construct are proud of our extensive portfolio of achievements in the Emirate of Fujairah, including numerous critical port infrastructure projects. Cheers to all our staff and partners in the Middle East, with whom we will continue to foster strong relationships!
