Week of 22 September
1. Milestone reached at Nordhavn Tunnel (Denmark)
In Copenhagen, our team marked a major step forward on the Nordhavn Tunnel project. Last week, they executed the project’s largest concrete casting, with a base plate measuring 43 by 50 metres and requiring 1,600 m³ of concrete. This section will later house the pumping station and a technical building. Congratulations to everyone involved!
2. Impressive transport underway for De Nieuwe Meer intersection (the Netherlands)
In the north of Amsterdam, BESIX NL and its partners are making progress on the reconstruction of the De Nieuwe Meer intersection. This week, three massive support beams are being transported by water from a workshop in the northern Netherlands to the site. Each beam measures 14 metres long, 3 metres wide and high, and weighs 160 tonnes! That’s roughly the weight of a blue whale, one of the largest animals on earth! Once installed, these beams will support an impressive 300-meter-long flyover across the River Schinkel. You can follow the live journey here. The beams are expected to arrive on-site by Friday.
3. Inauguration second footbridge in Libreville (Gabon)
Last Friday, the Gabonese Minister of Public Works and Construction officially inaugurated the Bizango-Pk13 pedestrian bridge in Libreville. It’s the second footbridge delivered by BESIX and partners as part of a wider infrastructure project aimed at improving road safety and connectivity. Located near a school, the bridge offers a safe crossing over the busy N1 road. The full scope of the project includes a main bridge, two urban flyovers and four pedestrian footbridges. Well done to everyone involved!
4. Inspiring session at Vanhout’s Borgerwijk project (Belgium)
Last week, Vanhout’s Borgerwijk project in Sint-Katelijne-Waver welcomed the Real Estate Community of VOKA (federation that represents the interests of businesses in Flanders) an inspiring session on how artificial intelligence is reshaping construction. Various speakers took the stage, including Vanhout CEO Bert Lenearts, who gave a brief history of the site.
Borgerwijk is a joint development by Vanhout Projects and Cores Development, transforming a former site into a vibrant mixed-use district with housing, a care campus with service flats and a park.
And then this... VIP visit at Zayed National Museum (UAE)
Recently, our Group's Executive Vice Chairman, Johan Beerlandt, visited the Zayed National Museum to appreciate our team’s work as they near the project's delivery phase. Situated in the Saadiyat Cultural District, the museum is scheduled to open in December 2025. It will pay tribute to the UAE's founding father and heritage, showcasing six permanent galleries, areas for temporary exhibitions, and an outdoor gallery. Good luck, team!
