Week of 21 July

1. First top slab poured at Nordhavn Tunnel (Denmark)

And just like that, we’re off! Last week, our team in Copenhagen successfully poured the very first top slab of the Nordhavn Tunnel, a major milestone in this impressive infrastructure project. A total of 800 m³ of concrete was cast using a formwork traveller, a clever mobile system that moves along with the tunnel as construction progresses. The Nordhavn Tunnel is a 1.4-kilometre-long cut-and-cover tunnel, running 700 metre beneath the harbour. It will enhance accessibility to the city’s northern harbour area. Well done to everyone involved!

2. Launching girder for Tanga jetty nearly at abutment (Tanzania)

In the bay of Tanga, on Tanzania’s north coast, progress is moving steadily at the Tanga Jetty project. The launching girder is nearing the abutment, needing just one more pile to be driven. A fully assembled 280-tonne crawler crane is on site, prepared for the girder's arrival and dismantling. Meanwhile, the team has also installed the final pile of the first berthing dolphin. Some of these piles are 80 metres long. Great work, team Tanga!

3. “Name the Crane” brings creativity to Ipswich Hospital site (Australia)

At the Ipswich Hospital Expansion project, the team of BESIX Watpac recently invited local school students to take part in a creative initiative to name the site’s three tower cranes. Through this “Name the Crane” campaign, pupils submitted creative entries that led to the official naming of the cranes as Moonlight, Ipsy Dipsy, and Helping Hand. The names were revealed during a special event held in honour of the pupils, and will now be proudly displayed outside the construction site. A great way to connect with the community!

The project will create expanded infrastructure while connecting and integrating with the surrounding and adjoining facilities. Work includes a new Acute Services Building with 200 additional beds as well as built-in capacity to expand with future growth.

4. BESIX Master’s Thesis Award 2024-2025 (Belgium)

On 4 July, representatives of top companies in Belgium, among which BESIX, handed out master's thesis awards to Engineering graduates from Leuven University who have written an excellent thesis in these companies’ sectors. Eva Heirbaut, Director Finance and Administration at BESIX Belgium-Luxembourg, proudly presented the BESIX Award to Maarten Verbiest. His thesis on impact sound insulation in floating lightweight floors stood out for its quality and relevance to our sector. A big congratulations to Maarten!

And then this... Mid-year check-in with our CEO

As we reached the halfway mark of 2025, it was the perfect time to reflect on how far we’ve come. In a special mid-year interview, our CEO Pierre Sironval shared his thoughts on the Group’s performance, key highlights, and the lessons we’ve learned so far. Have you watched it yet?
