Week of 20 November

1. Last giant crane to be removed from Zayed National Museum site (UAE)

The Zayed National Museum is making steady progress. The team in Abu Dhabi is finishing the installation of the glass-fibre reinforced concrete panels on the wings and the last giant crane on the site is about to be removed. Congrats on this amazing project, ZNM Team!

In the photo below also, you can see how the team is making good progress with the precision work involved in fixing the fibreglass-reinforced concrete slabs. They are also completing the installation of the cooling pipes, setting the stage for a smooth start on the crisp canvas of white concrete flooring.

2. WUST inaugurates renovated swimming pool in Spa (Belgium)

After 18 months of work, the new municipal swimming pool in Spa, in the Liège Province, was inaugurated on 8 November in the presence of the Walloon Minister of sports infrastructures Adrien Dolimont. This brand-new facility designed by our colleagues at WUST and their partner ACH, meets the latest energy standards thanks to its enhanced insulation, along with photovoltaic and solar panels.

But that’s not all – this pool is truly for everyone. Extensive renovations were undertaken to make it accessible to people with reduced mobility, providing an inclusive space for all swimmers in the Belgian thermal city. Visitors will be able to choose from multiple pools and the new irresistible slide will delight both young and young at heart! Click here to check out the results of Wust’s impressive renovation work. Congratulations to our colleagues at Wust and their partner ACH on this amazing project. And lots of success in tendering for the next contract, i.e. the upgrade of the outside pool.

3. Kangaroo Point Green Bridge has its upper legs (Australia)

Now we move to Brisbane, where our colleagues from BESIX Watpac have reached another major milestone making steady progress on the Kangaroo Point Green Bridge. The team has installed the 25-metre-long upper legs, which marks the finalisation of the preparation works for the installation of the masthead. Once completed, the bridge will establish a direct link between the city’s Central Business District and the Kangaroo Point suburb, serving as a vital pedestrian and cycling link for commuters, residents, and tourists, significantly improving transportation and connectivity in the area. Great job, BESIX Watpac!

4. Double achievement for CIRCL: ‘Autodesk University’ in Las Vegas and nomination Henry van de Velde awards (Belgium)

This year, 10,000 people attended the Autodesk University conference in Las Vegas. Among the numerous keynotes and discussions around the theme of digital transformation, was CIRCL, a Belgian startup, part of Vanhout and backed by BESIX through BESIX Technology. CIRCL, which stands for 'Creating Innovative Residential Compact Living Spaces', is a digital housing concept that efficiently realizes sustainable construction and renovation projects on an industrial scale.

During the conference, representatives of CIRCL explored the use of AI in prefabricated and sustainable housing, thus addressing the environmental impact of the construction sector and recognizing the need for a massive renovation wave to achieve climate neutrality by 2050. Kudos to CIRCL for its commitment to a greener future!

CIRCL has also been nominated for the Henri van de Velde Public Gold Award, in the category Business Innovation.

These awards showcase and reward Flemish designers, companies, products, projects, services, and systems that, through the intelligent application of design, have a positive impact on society, the environment, and the economy. De Henry van de Velde Awards are a platform for design in the Belgian Flemish Region and advocate for innovation and corporate social responsibility. They are named after architect Henry Van de Velde, one of Belgium’s greatest designers of the 20th century.

Let’s help CIRCL turn their nomination into an award by voting for them here. Votes are open until 15 December. Good luck to them!

And then this... BESIX Watpac sleeps out (Australia)

Last week, 10 people from the New-South-Wales team once again exchanged their cozy beds for a night under the starry skies in Centennial Park in the heart of Sydney. Organised by the Property Industry Foundation Sleepout, this noble initiative aims to raise not only awareness about Australia’s homeless youth but also funds to provide a young person living in NSW with a safe bed to sleep in.
