Week of 31 March 2025

1. When the sun sets in Abidjan (Ivory Coast)

In Abidjan (Ivory Coast), BESIX is playing a key role in the construction of the F Tower, managing project oversight and civil works for PFO Africa. Soaring towards its final height of nearly 400 metres, this architectural marvel is set to be Africa’s tallest tower. Currently standing at an impressive 279 metres, it’s already a breathtaking sight, especially when bathed in the warm hues of the setting sun!

2. Fulfilling sustainable ambitions at the Krammer Locks (the Netherlands)

In Zeeland (the Netherlands), the ZEEKR joint venture has introduced a battery pack for the Krammer Locks modernisation project. This milestone was marked in the presence of our client Rijkswaterstaat and a delegation from the Dutch Ministry of Economy and Climate.

Installing a battery pack on site offers a smart, sustainable solution to reduce fuel consumption, lower emissions, and cut noise pollution. It ensures stable power delivery, supports peak load management, and can serve as a reliable backup during outages. The battery system will also enable the integration of renewable energy sources like solar panels, and ultimately reduce the site's environmental footprint!

As a key link in the Rotterdam-Antwerp-Ghent maritime corridor, the locks handle 60,000 vessels annually. This renovation will make them more efficient, modern, and sustainable. BESIX NL and BESIX Unitec are proud to be part of the ZEEKR joint venture leading the way. Preparations are in full swing, with the first visible works completed two weeks ago. Good luck, Team Krammer Locks!

3. Exciting progress at Nordhavn Tunnel (Denmark)

Over the past few weeks, the BESIX - MT Højgaard Danmark teams have been making great strides on the 1.4 km cut-and-cover Nordhavn Tunnel, a key infrastructure project that will significantly improve accessibility in the area. So far, they have poured 150 meters of blinding concrete, cast six tunnel walls, and completed three bottom slabs. To facilitate this, three tower cranes have already been erected, with a fourth one to be installed soon. Once the walls are cast and cured, the team will begin assembling the formwork traveler to start construction of the tunnel’s roof slab. We can’t wait to see this vital infrastructure come further to life!

4. New primary school and child daycare unit under construction by LuxTP (Grand Duchy of Luxembourg)

In Mertzig (Luxembourg), LuxTP is building a new primary school with an integrated ‘maison relais’. A maison relais is a type of childcare facility that provides supervised care, meals, and educational activities for children outside regular school hours.

Sustainability is at the heart of this 31,700 m³ project, with ecological materials such as timber construction, wooden cladding, and sheep’s wool insulation ensuring a healthy and comfortable environment. Acoustic solutions also play a key role in enhancing well-being for children and staff.

And then this... World Water Day at Zayed National Museum (UAE)

Last week, our team at the Zayed National Museum took a moment to celebrate World Water Day. Marked annually on 22 March, this UN initiative highlights the importance of freshwater conservation and its sustainable management. A great opportunity for our team to reflect on sustainability and the essential role water plays in our world!
