Week of 16 October
1. BESIX Infra rising to the top (Belgium)
Almost a year ago, Vanhout started working on expanding the building which will house BESIX Infra, Belasco, BESIX Unitec, and BESIX Infra Support in Schelle, by adding three extra floors on top of the current headquarters. BESIX Infra and BESIX Unitec have been responsible for the preparatory works on and around the site, while Franki Foundations took care of the foundation works. A real BESIX family achievement. And all this while maintaining the current offices operational throughout the works. Just look at how far they’ve come since November 2022! We can’t wait to see it completed! Good job colleagues!
2. Jacques Delens is ready to work (out) (Belgium)
On Friday 6th October, a ceremony to lay the first stone was held to inaugurate the beginning of partial renovation works of the Omnisport complex in Evere (Brussels). The federal Minister of Pensions, Social Integration, Fighting Poverty and Disabled Persons, Karine Lalieux, was present at the event, together with Ridouane Chahid, Acting Mayor of Evere, and David Cordonnier, Alderman for Public Works in Evere. The project also includes the construction of a multi-sports hall, with a cafeteria and terrace overlooking the sports pitches. To ensure maximum sustainability, works will especially focus on energy performance, rainwater management via an infiltration basin, and acoustics. Best wishes to the Jacques Delens team for this renovation project!
3. Adelaide GPO Hotel Marriott tops out (Australia)
Now we move to Adelaide, where our Australian colleagues have reached a remarkable milestone: the Topping Out of the GPO Hotel Marriott! That definitely called for celebration by Project Developer, Greaton Development, and even South Australia's Treasurer Stephen Mullighan made an appearance on site. The construction statistics are impressive, with 7,500 cubic meters of concrete poured, 1,160 tonnes of reinforcing installed, and 450 façade panels meticulously placed. Keep up the good work BESIX Watpac!
4. Finish line in sight for Lusail Towers (Qatar)
Exciting progress from our colleagues working on Lusail Towers! The façade end works at the podium are becoming more visible, marked by the ongoing installation of polymer on the roofs. Polymer is a material composed of a mixture of aggregates and a hydraulic or hydrocarbon binder, characterised by its high chemical and mechanical resistance, its transparency and its malleability. In addition, the courtyard’s UHPC (ultra-high-performance concrete) panels are nearing completion. As the last tower cranes are removed, the path is cleared for completing the roof works. The landscape works are also advancing, with ongoing tiling in the courtyards and finalisation of the landscape logistic corridor areas. Improved weather conditions are facilitating snagging and alignment works on the tower facade, with the utilisation of the Building Maintenance Units. BMUs are automatic, remote-controlled, or mechanical devices, usually suspended from the roof, which move systematically over some surface of a structure while carrying human window washers or mechanical robots to maintain or clean the covered surfaces. Nice progress, Qatar team!
And then this...
Congrats to all our colleagues of BESIX France who ran the 20 km through Paris two weeks ago!
