Week of 14 November
1. Strength in number! (Qatar)
We love this family moment: the whole team of the Lusail Towers project strikes a pose in front of the towers, before the hiatus during the World Cup. One of the major milestones was to finish the façade before the World Cup: job done, congrats to all!
The Lusail Towers are an emblematic project our colleagues in Qatar are contributing to in Qatar with their joint venture partner MIDMAC. This impressive complex is composed of two 70-storey and two 50-storey high towers that are arranged symmetrically around a central plaza. The MIC Construct-MIDMAC joint venture is responsible for the design and construction of the two 50-storey towers, as well as a series of low-level podium buildings at the bases of the towers.
2. Leuven, digital city thanks to BESIX Unitec (Belgium)
The city of Leuven has commissioned a new traffic guidance system installed by BESIX Unitec. At 50 locations in the city, dynamic LED screens make it easier for visitors to find a parking space and show them the best route to it. Congrats to all parties involved!
3. New milestone reached on the Abobo Tunnel project (Ivory Coast)
Civil works on the Abobo Tunnel have begun earlier this year and have been progressing very well ever since. Last week, the teams reached another beautiful milestone when they successfully assembled the formwork table of the tunnel. Congratulations, team!
BESIX is in charge of the civil works of the 560-metre long Abobo Tunnel, including the access ramps. It will accommodate the A1 national road with three lanes in each direction and is part of the broader development of the Abobo Town Hall roundabout. The project will significantly improve the accessibility of and traffic flow in the Abidjan metropolitan area.
4. New milestone reached on the Nachtigal project (Cameroon)
On 9 November, we reached the right bank of Sanaga river and closed the last arm of the river Sanaga. The animation below shows how the cofferdam progressed. Isn’t this a beauty? Congrats to all teams involved!
BESIX has won a contract to design and build the Nachtigal dam, in partnership with the French company NGE and Moroccan company SGTM. Located on the River Sanaga, some 65 kilometres north of Yaoundé, this hydroelectric dam will increase the country's supply of renewable energy.
The project involves designing and building a 2.0 km long and up to 14m high dam in roller compacted concrete, a 3 km supply canal and the civil engineering works of the hydroelectric power plant (with seven 60 MW turbines) and water intake facilities.
... and then this: As if you were there: preparation of magestic festivities for the World Cup (Qatar)
Just sit and relax and watch the video below, as if you were in the front row of a show for the preparation of the World Cup festivities, featuring our beautiful Lusail Towers!
