Week of 13 January
1. A year’s difference at Nordhavn Tunnel (Denmark)
Below, you can see the remarkable progress our team in Copenhagen (Denmark) has made over the past year. Last year (second picture), they had not yet begun excavation for the tunnel’s construction pit. This week (first picture), reinforcement works are well underway and the initial concrete casting works has been completed. Outstanding work, team Nordhavn!
The Nordhavn Tunnel is a 1.4-kilometre cut-and-cover road tunnel that will enhance traffic flow in the area. We can’t wait to see it take further shape this year!
2. VIP visit at Mohammed VI Tower (Morocco)
In Rabat (Morocco), BESIX and TGCC are currently building the Mohammed VI Tower. This stunning high-rise is 250 metres high and visible from 50 kilometres away. Last week, our Executive Vice-Chairman joined the client to admire the latest progress on this landmark project. With finishing works fully underway, the tower is looking more spectacular than ever, as you can see in the pictures below!

3. The 4 fundamental safety principles at Zayed National Museum (UAE)
Recently, the HSE team of Zayed National Museum in Abu Dhabi (UAE) organised a so-called toolbox meeting, bringing together the project’s entire HSE staff. Focus of the meeting were the four fundamental safety principles: BE SAFE, Life Saving Rules, Safety Walk & Engaging effectively with subcontractors. Well done!
The Zayed National Museum is one of two world-class museums being built by BESIX Middle East in Abu Dhabi’s Saadiyat Cultural District, alongside the Guggenheim Abu Dhabi. The museum will showcase Sheikh Zayed’s life, legacy, and the history of the UAE.
4. Sustainable and safety milestones at Portonave project (Brazil)
In the port of Navegantes, BESIX and ECB are upgrading Portonave’s marine infrastructure. The project involves constructing a new quay wall while ensuring the port remains functional. Demonstrating their commitment to sustainability, the team has replaced 10 diesel-powered lighting towers with solar-powered ones. This change eliminates nearly 300 tonnes of CO2 emissions annually and reduces operating costs.
In addition, the team reached an exceptional safety milestone last month: one million safe workhours without a Lost-Time Incident (LTI)! To mark this achievement, a special lunch was organised on-site. Congratulations, team Brazil!
And then this: Another successful KiddyBuild session (Belgium)
Last month, a class of primary school students in Brussels (Belgium) had the opportunity to explore the exciting world of construction during a KiddyBuild session, an initiative by BESIX Foundation. Using the foundation’s bilingual board game Construction Heroes (Les héros de la construction/De helden van de bouw), the pupils learned about the construction sector and its various trades through an interactive workshop. A big shouthout to BESIX volunteers Youness and Abdellah for leading this KiddyBuild session!
