Week of 13 August

1. Final truss in place at Tange Jetty (Tanzania)

Progress continues steadily on the jetty and load-out facilities (LOF) in the bay of Tanga. Last week, the RIMA jack-up barge placed the final truss, completing the nearly two-kilometre-long trestle and connectingthe LOF platform to the shore. A solid step forward for the team on site, well done!

2. 6 months of progress in 30 seconds (Belgium)

Things are moving fast at the port of Ghent, where BESIX and Indaver are teaming up to build a Sludge Mono-Treatment Plant for Aquafin. This cutting-edge facility will recover energy from the wastewater treatment sludge of 4 million Flemish residents, helping cut emissions by 28,000 tonnes of CO₂-eq annually from 2027 onwards.

Did you know that BESIX and Indaver are not only building it? We are also handling the design, financing, and will operate and maintain the plant for the next 20 years.

Hit play and watch 6 months of teamwork fly by in half a minute!

3. New footbridge in place (Gabon)

On 2 August, our team in Gabon successfully lifted the Bizango footbridge into position in Libreville. Measuring 30 metres long, 6 metres high and weighing 10 tonnes, the bridge now spans a busy road in a school area, improving safety for pedestrians—especially schoolchildren—and easing traffic flow below. The operation was part of a broader infrastructure project that includes two 200-metre flyovers, four pedestrian bridges and the new 200-metre Ebel-Abanga bridge. Curious to see how it all came together? Watch this video featuring our colleague Guillaume (in French)!

4. Time for ice cream in Abu Dhabi!

In Abu Dhabi, works have officially kicked off on the LOC project, following an Early Contractor Involvement phase. LOC is a first-of-its-kind rehabilitation centre - or rather, a full-fledged healthcare development. It will provide specialized care for around 100 patients, featuring high-end interiors and facilities. With temperatures soaring to 40°C, our site teams are working hard under tough conditions. To show appreciation for their efforts, some well-deserved ice cream was handed out. A cool initiative, team!

And then this... Safety first at the Scheld Tunnel project (Belgium)

Last weekend, the Antwerp fire brigade carried out a rescue exercise at Doel Dock, where the Scheldt Tunnel elements are temporarily stationed. The scenario involved evacuating an unconscious worker using a complex combination of horizontal and vertical transport. The operation was a joint effort with the site team of TM COTU, of which BESIX is part. It’s all part of our commitment to safety: the transport and immersion of the tunnel is a major logistical challenge, and we prepare for every possible risk—including emergency scenarios. Hats off to everyone involved!
