Week of 8 January
1. Major milestone for Mamer water treatment plant (Grand Duchy of Luxembourg)
The new four biological tanks at the Mamer water treatment plant are now operational, treating some 20,000 m³ of wastewater daily. Congratulations to all parties involved for this major achievement!
BESIX Environment and Lux TP have modernised the electromechanical installations of the Mamer wastewater treatment plant in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg. In addition to the electromechanical works, BESIX Environment and Lux TP are also responsible for the coordination of the parties involved on the site, including the civil engineering works.
2. Safety First at Rail Baltica (Latvia)
Just before the end of last year, our team in Latvia reached an impressive 1 million working hours without Lost Time Injury and implemented the Oasis QHSE platform on site. Way to go, Riga team!
It has been three years since the construction of the Riga Central Railway Station started. Take a look at this timelapse to see the progress of the works.
3. Valfabbrica: major progress on both tunnels (Italy)
Both tunnels in the Valfabbrica project are booking progress. For the 1545-metre-long Casacastalda tunnel, side Ancona, our team in Italy installed the rebar for the realisation of arch 35, for the section from 420 to 432 metres (1st picture) For the 874-metre-long Picchiarella tunnel, side Perugia, the team carried out the shotcrete on the steel girder of the 19th section, from 165.6 metres to 177.6 metres (second picture).
Congratulations Valfabbrica team for your steady progress on this major infrastructure project!
In central Italy, BESIX is doubling State Road 318, in partnership with Donati S.p.A. The project in Valfabbrica, includes two two-lane tunnels, a viaduct, and a bridge. The project will improve the connection and traffic flow between the cities of Perugia and Ancona.
4. Opening tunnel under Kortrijk station (Belgium)
Mid-December the ‘Appel Tunnel’ under the train station in Kortrijk (West Flanders) was opened, in the presence of town officials including the mayor, Vincent Van Quickenborne. The tunnel is an essential link in the project around the railway station. The tunnel gives travellers and residents access to a very modern and affordable car park within walking distance of the city centre and provides for a separate underground crossing of the city ring road for cars, while pedestrians and cyclists can continue crossing above ground. Kudos to our team in Kortrijk for this achievement in a major infrastructure project for the city!
BESIX was selected by the Belgian National Railways Company (SNCB/NMBS) to build and fit out this road traffic tunnel, and to carry out road and remediation works in the vicinity of Kortrijk station.
