Week of 5 June

1. BESIX rocking the airwaves (BESIX worldwide)

On 1 June, 1,950 employees from all over the world tuned in to BESIX Radio, a unique radio show made by and for all colleagues within BESIX Group. An interesting and fun programme thanks to many of you who sent in your favourite song, told us a fascinating story from your workplace, provided a fun photo or gave an interview on your expertise… If you missed the show or you liked it so much that you want to relive some parts, you can replay it via www.besixradio.com!

2. DPG Media and RTBF buildings soon wind- and waterproof (The Netherlands and Belgium)

The BESIX NL and BESIX Belgium teams are booking great progress on their respective projects, Mediavaert in Amsterdam and the new headquarters for the Belgian French-speaking public broadcaster, RTBF, in Brussels. What a beautiful sight to see the façades of these buildings almost completed! Congratulations to our Dutch and Belgian colleagues!

3. New circular and modular housing by CIRCL (Belgium)

Last week, one of the two first circular and modular 3-bedroom houses built by CIRCL in Diest, a small town northeast of Belgium, was inaugurated by Flemish Minister for housing Matthias Diependaele, the town’s mayor Christophe De Graef, Vanhout CEO Ronny Eijckmans, and CIRCL CEO Wim Pieters. CIRCL, a Vanhout subsidiary, offers a truly innovative concept, as it combines sustainability, affordability, speed, and flexibility. Clients receive a quotation within a day of their request, with a guaranteed fixed price, and construction time doesn’t exceed 6 weeks. A large part of the construction of CIRCL houses is done off site. They are equipped with energy-efficient technical installations, which brings the E-level, a Flemish scoring system about energy-efficiency to an excellent -6 score. They also have an A+ energy label, making them compliant for 2050. Shout-out to CIRCL and Vanhout colleagues for this unseen concept!

4. National Reconciliation Week (Australia)

Each year, Australia celebrates the National Reconciliation Week from 27 May to 3 June. Two significant dates in Australia’s history. 27 May marks the anniversary of the 1967 referendum, when Australians voted to remove clauses in the Australian Constitution that discriminated against Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. 3 June marks the historic 1992 Mabo decision in which the High Court of Australia recognised Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples’ rights over their lands and waters, paving the way for native title.

Our Australian colleagues from BESIX Watpac celebrated this week reflecting on the journey they started three years ago with the launch of their first Reconciliation Action Plan. BESIX Watpac has made big steps forward since then to create meaningful opportunities for First Nations people on their projects. This includes over 14.5 million Australian dollars invested in procuring goods and services from Indigenous businesses and a national average of 2.1 % Indigenous participation on their projects.

And then this…

On 2 June, BYC (BESIX Young Community) in Belgium organised its annual football tournament in Mechelen, Belgium. 16 teams competed against each other from all over the Group. Players from BESIX, BESIX Nederland, Socogetra, Vanhout, Jacques Delens, BESIX Unitec and many others assembled in teams to compete for eternal glory. Fans from all over the Group were welcome to cheer on their favourite teams. During the tournament, players and fans could enjoy refreshing drinks and delicious food. The tournament ended in a true thriller, as Team EJD (Jacques Delens) and Designosaurs (BESIX Engineering Department) had to resort to shoot-outs to determine the winner after a 4-4 end score. In the end, the coveted cup went to Designosaurs. Top scorers of the tournament were Alexander Hoste (People Lions) and Dorian Van Winckel (Socogetra) with 11 goals each. Well done to all for the sportive performances and the very collegial atmosphere!
