Week of 12 February
1. TM ROCO starts construction of Bypass (Belgium)
On 9 February, the TM ROCO team officially launched the start of the construction of the Bypass, a temporary motorway that will appear next to the existing R1 between the junctions Antwerp-North and Antwerp-East. This temporary motorway will accommodate traffic while the existing highway is demolished. The construction of the bypass is a crucial step in the Oosterweel project, aiming at burying and covering that section of the Ring. The first girders are already heading to the site this week. Congratulations to our colleagues in Antwerp for this major milestone!
2. Ground-breaking time at A27 (The Netherlands)
After years of preparation, the 'first' shovel went into the ground on Wednesday 31 January at the A27 site, south of Utrecht. That was the starting shot for the renewal and widening of the section of this motorway between Houten and Hooipolder, a huge infrastructure project of nearly 800 million euros that will transform some 50 kilometres of motorway in the coming years. BESIX Nederland is part of the consortium De Groene Waarden, with Mobilis and partners Van Gelder and Mourik Infra, which was awarded the contract for the part concerning the renewal and widening of the northern section of the project, between the cities Houten and Everdingen. Good luck to our colleagues at BESIX Nederland for their part in this major project!
3. MoU signed for major production site of sustainable aviation fuel (UAE)
Our colleagues of BESIX in the Middle East (Peter Lembrechts left in the picture), have just signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Dubai Municipality and ENOC regarding the production of sustainable aviation fuel. This commitment supports the Municipality's goals of making Dubai a more sustainable city.
4. Partnership BESIX-RED and Flamant for stylish kitchen design for DUUO (Portugal)
We have news from BESIX RED Portugal's flagship residential project near Praça de Espanha in Lisbon. BESIX RED’s local team has established an exclusive partnership with MODULNOVA by Flamant, a stylish Italian brand renowned for its exceptional kitchen designs. This collaboration shows BESIX RED’s commitment to enhancing the DUUO experience for their clients, prioritizing not only quality, style, and functionality but also their well-being.
And then this... Archeological finds at the Constitution building site (Belgium)
Our team working on the 233-metre-long Toots Thielemans subway station, formerly known as 'Constitution', in the centre of Brussels, made an incredible discovery. Several items were found like mammoth bones or tusks, proving the existence of these prehistoric animals in the region!
