Week of 2 June
1. Vanhout Group and BESIX visit Nike in Laakdal (Belgium)
Last week, representatives from Vanhout Group and BESIX visited the Nike European Logistics Campus (ELC) in Laakdal. The visit aimed to gain a closer understanding of the day-to-day maintenance work carried out by ComTIS Services, a Vanhout subsidiary, on the site. Ronny Eijckmans and Wilfried Nijsen attended on behalf of Vanhout and ComTIS Services, alongside Jean Polet representing BESIX.
The visit began with an introduction to Nike’s logistics operations, followed by a guided tour of the site. The delegation walked through various areas including logistics zones and automated warehouses. During the tour, they observed several recent maintenance projects completed by ComTIS Services. According to a smartwatch worn by one participant, the tour covered more than five kilometres!
Nike’s management expressed appreciation for the collaboration with ComTIS Services during a short informal reception at the end of the visit. Well done!
2. BESIX named “Company of the Month” on the Google data centre project in Saint-Ghislain (Belgium)
Once more, our colleagues at work on the Google data centre site have received a distinction from their client: BESIX has been named “Company of the Month” in recognition of their consistent performance and high-quality execution.
This recognition highlights the team’s commitment, discipline, and collaboration on a demanding project. The client specifically commended the professionalism shown by BESIX workers and acknowledged the quality of the work delivered. If you remember, the team already won this distinction back in April!
Well done, colleagues, and let’s keep this positive momentum as the project moves forward.

3. C-Suite on tour (France, UAE, KSA)!
This past week, our CEO, CFO and COO have toured some of our project sites. These visits are meant to create opportunities for site teams to share progress and perspectives, and for management to show engagement, unlock situations that might be stuck, and most frequently too, perform a safety walk all together.
While Jan Van Steirteghem, COO of BESIX Construction visited the impressive high-rise project Triangle at the heart of Paris (France), Hans Beerlandt, BESIX Group’s CFO went to the site of the stunning Zayed National Museum in Abu Dhabi, together with Chairman Johan Beerlandt. Pierre Sironval, CEO of BESIX Group, was welcomed at the Port of Neom project in Oxagon, Saudi Arabia. Below you’ll find some of their candid pictures!
4. It’s beginning to look a lot like a jetty (Tanzania) 🎵
In Tanzania, the teams working on the jetty in Tanga are working at full speed on all fronts. The concrete works at the Load Out Facility (seawards end of the jetty) are done and the works at the abutment of the mainland are ongoing. The jetty is beginning to look like a real jetty!
On the shallow section of the jetty, the use of the launching girder has been instrumental in preserving the seabed and minimizing environmental impact. This week, gleaners of Chongoleani area (people who fish for invertebrates) have continued to access the intertidal zone using the dedicated passage (they are guided in this picture by the site’s Community Liaison Officer, Zuhura Mgala) under the jetty to collect cowrie shells - demonstrating how infrastructure development and traditional livelihoods can co-exist.
Well done team and keep up the good work!
PS: Sorry for the earworm 😏🎅
And then this...
Peter Lembrechts, General Manager of BESIX Middle East, was invited by Bloomberg and Abu Dhabi department of Economic Development to discuss how PPPs are creating transformative infrastructure and driving economic growth in the emirate. Let’s watch & listen!
