The team at Portonave, Brazil, has every reason to be proud. On 31 July, they reached a major milestone: 250 metres of new quay wall delivered on time. A significant step forward for the project and a great reward for months of hard work and teamwork.
Safety has remained a constant focus throughout the works. On the day the milestone was reached, Jean-Baptiste de Ghellinck and Jan Van Steirteghem were out in the field as part of BE SAFE Ambassadors programme, engaging directly with riggers on site. As you can see on the photos, Jean-Baptiste took the opportunity to explain a safer way to load a genset onto a truck, while Jan reinforced one of the cornerstones of the BESIX safety culture: no blame, but continuous improvement. A great example of how safety leadership happens every day on our projects.
The milestone is also the result of excellent collaboration across the Group. The project team was strengthened by colleagues from Franki Foundations, including project engineer Eric Bonnier, who crossed the ocean, to bring his expertise and support the team on site. This close cooperation between BESIX and Franki Foundations helped maintain momentum and played an important role in reaching the milestone on schedule
The drone footage captured on the day shows the scale of the achievement: 250 additional metres of completed quay wall now ready to support one of Brazil's busiest ports. So congratulations to everyone involved!
And there's little time to rest: the next target is already on the horizon. The team is now focused on delivering the next (and last) 250 metres of quay wall over the coming three months. If this milestone is any indication, they're well on track.
