BESIX has once again successfully completed the process of assessing the certification of its Building Information Modelling (BIM) methodology according to the standards ISO 19650 and PAS 1192 and was awarded the KitemarkTM Certificate. The official certification was delivered by BSI, a global leading standards body operating around the globe.

Building Information Modelling

The BIM approach, which has become indispensable in the construction sector, consists of creating a virtual model of the asset to be built. This significantly improves information management throughout the asset's life cycle, from design and construction to operation and maintenance.

BESIX: A renowned digital expertise

Since 2010, BESIX has been a forerunner in the use of BIM, particularly for large projects such as high rises and complex buildings, locks and port terminals, road and rail infrastructure, stadiums and environmental facilities. These include the Mohammed VI Tower in Morocco, the world’s largest waste-to-energy plant in Dubai, the Grand Egyptian Museum in Cairo, the Tour Triangle in Paris as well as the Princess Beatrix Lock, the largest inland navigation lock in the Netherlands.

Kristof Vandenbogaerde, Corporate BIM Manager BESIX Engineering: “The KitemarkTM certificate guarantees to our clients that BESIX carries out its works in compliance with the most demanding BIM standards as it incorporates international BIM standards ISO 19650–1, 2. In 2017, BESIX was already one of the first construction companies in Europe to be awarded the BIM Level 2 certification by meeting the criteria of the PAS 1192-2 standard. In 2020, BESIX was accredited with the first worldwide BIM standard ISO 19650-2:2018. We are very proud to remain at the forefront in this field with the KitemarkTM Certificate in 2023.
Tomas de Loo, Lead Auditor, BSI: “BESIX proves to be an example of structurally applying ISO 19650 during the project delivery phase on projects. I am convinced that thanks to certified organisations such as BESIX the supply chain will be improved and projects will be delivered with increased efficiency and quality assurance.

The ISO 19650 standard and the KitemarkTM Certificate

The ISO 19650 standard is an international standard for managing information about buildings and civil engineering works over their whole life cycle using BIM and in this regard, applies to companies considered as Tier 1 Lead Designer and Lead Contractor.

The KitemarkTM Certificate, which follows a verification of all procedures implemented in BESIX and BESIX Engineering department, including client satisfaction and collaborative engagement, covers ‘all BESIX contracting activities executed, supervised or managed by BESIX Engineering department; or using BESIX Engineering processes’.
