On June 5th, World Environment Day, in the setting of our Dubai Waste-to-Energy plant, a special event was organised to celebrate and raise awareness about the importance of protecting our environment. The initiative was warmly embraced by the entire team of Shou’alah, composed by our O&M teams, and those of our consortium partner HZI.

Management took the lead by launching a drawing competition, inviting all the workers, many of whom are blue-collar employees from diverse backgrounds, to express their thoughts and hopes for the environment through art. The enthusiasm was palpable as everyone, from engineers to maintenance staff, put their creativity to paper.

The top three artists, whose works stood out for their originality and messages, were awarded prizes. Each winning artist then had the chance to step onto the stage and share the story behind their artwork. Speaking in their native languages, they conveyed powerful messages about the environment, drawing on their personal experiences and cultural backgrounds. Their words highlighted the universal importance of environmental stewardship.

Following these presentations, the entire team came together to sign an Environmental Pledge. This act symbolised our unified commitment to sustainable practices and the collective responsibility we share in protecting our planet.

This event was a powerful reminder of how small actions can make a big difference. By organising such awareness activities, we encourage a sense of community and solidarity among our team, and reinforce our dedication to environmental sustainability. These moments of unity and shared purpose are essential in driving forward our mission of creating solutions for a better world.
