On Friday 29 March, the first stone - or rather the first concrete panel - of the state-of-the-art digital Corda Arena (Hasselt, Belgium) was laid in the presence of Flemish Tourism Minister Zuhal Demir and Hasselt Mayor Steven Vandeput. Jean Polet, General Manager Affiliates, represented BESIX Group on this occasion, toegether with Bart Herroelen, Director at Vanhout.

With the start of construction of the Corda Arena, Vanhout is contributing to the creation of a ground-breaking 10,000 m² digital experience arena, which will emerge as the largest in continental Europe. This Design & Build project, with a construction contract value of €43 million, will provide the region with a revolutionary event venue. Equipped with the latest technologies, the Corda Arena, which can accommodate up to 3,750 visitors, will play a key role in strengthening Limburg's position as a centre for innovation and international events.

With an expected opening in September 2025, this event temple should become the setting for next-generation corporate congresses, product shows, technology fairs and academic conferences. But also to niche sports such as e-sports, chess or padel tournaments. The first of its kind in continental Europe, the fourth in the world. This development further establishes Limburg as a key player in congress tourism and technology events.

"We are honoured to work with the partners to shape this high-tech experience arena" said Jean Polet.
