The Guggenheim Museum is taking shape!

Group 1 min read

In Abu Dhabi (UAE), BESIX Middle East is moving ahead on the Guggenheim Museum, which will be the largest of the Guggenheim Museums in the world. The museum stands out because of its architectural design, which is the work of the award-winning and world-renowned architect Frank Gehry. It features a series of asymmetrical cones which surround the main building and serve as both entrances to the museum and outdoor exhibition spaces.

As you can see in the pictures, most of the cones have now been erected and are at different stages of completion. As the temporary structures are removed, the impressive steel framework is becoming visible. At the same time, rope access teams are installing the walkways, and the internal and external panels on the cones. On the marine side as well, progress continues at full speed. Currently, the teams are working on scour protection and revetment works around the sea wall, adjusting dredge pipes and demolishing the old revetment on the eastern side. Lastly, our colleagues are finalising the admin building’s superstructure, which means that the focus is now shifting towards architectural finishes.

35 million safe working hours

A couple of weeks ago, the project team reached an impressive safety milestone: 35 million manhours without a lost-time injury (LTI)! This achievement was made possible by the dedication and hard work of all teams involved, who conducted countless toolbox talks, held numerous rescue drills, and implemented safety measures from both bottom-up and top-down approaches. During the celebration, awards were also given to teams and individuals who have excelled in ensuring a safe working environment.

Congratulations to everyone who is involved!
