We’re pleased to announce that our colleague François Snoeck has been appointed CEO of start-up BuildUp (*). He succeeds founder Hélène de Troostembergh, who will remain actively involved as a board member and advisor.
François brings a strong BESIX background, having started his career with us in 2012. He began as lead technical architect and BIM manager on the Grand Egyptian Museum project, before joining the Engineering Department, where he played a key role in the development and adoption of parametric design. His deep digital expertise naturally led him into the start-up ecosystem: following a period with Neanex (another company in BESIX Group’s investment portfolio), he joined BuildUp in 2023 as Head of Operations, quickly making his mark.
This leadership transition marks a new chapter for BuildUp, with a sharpened focus on its steel-frame construction division, beSteel. With over 600 projects delivered across 10 countries, beSteel is known for its prefabricated lightweight steel structures, an approach that combines speed, precision, and circularity. These systems are particularly suited to adding height to existing buildings, optimising space usage while reducing environmental impact.
Under François’ leadership, BuildUp will continue to drive innovation in offsite construction, addressing both the housing shortage and the sector’s sustainability goals. The start-up’s mission, to reduce the footprint of the building industry, remains central to its work.
This development further reinforces BESIX Group’s role in shaping future-ready, sustainable construction solutions across the sector. We look forward to continuing our collaboration and supporting BuildUp in this next chapter and wish François the best in his new endeavour.
(*) BuildUp is part of BESIX Group’s innovation ecosystem. We acquired a 40% stake in the company in 2021 through our affiliate Vanhout.
