Last September, BESIX participated in the EcoVadis assessment which analyses environmental, labor & human rights, ethics and sustainable procurement performance of businesses around the world. Following this assessment, EcoVadis awarded BESIX SA/NV the gold medal with a score of 67/100, mainly for demonstrating an advanced management system on environmental and labour & human rights issues. Congratulations to all colleagues who made this possible.
EcoVadis experts evaluated the answers we provided to their questionnaire, and audited all supporting documents we produced to ascertain our answers. Based on their sustainability matrix, EcoVadis mapped BESIX’s performance on a scorecard, comparing BESIX’s results to other companies rated by EcoVadis in the construction industry.
- Overall score: BESIX SA/NV in the top 8%
- Environment: BESIX SA/NV in the top 4%
- Labour & Human Rights: BESIX SA/NV in the top 17%
- Sustainable Procurement: BESIX SA/NV in the top 21%
It is worth noting that our group is among the 5% of all companies evaluated by EcoVadis that obtained these scores!
Why did we participate in this assessment?
Because, simply put, sustainability has become a must to secure strong business partnerships. Since a couple of years, clients and banks are increasingly requesting an external assessment of the sustainable/ESG (Environment, Social, Governance) activities of companies with which they want to build strong business partnerships. The EcoVadis assessment helps them determine whether BESIX can be eligible for new projects and investments.
This gold medal is a concrete proof of our progress in terms of ESG, as we were awarded the silver medal in 2020.
Based on the 2022 score card, an action plan will be developed in order to further improve our sustainability performances and hence our EcoVadis scores in the coming years.
