As 2018 draws to a close, we can look back on the many achievements of the year.
From the early days when we decided to sit down to talk about increasing our involvement with Watpac, to these last few days when we decided to take our ownership to 100%; it’s been quite an exciting journey to this historic moment. Watpac will soon be a wholly-owned subsidiary of BESIX, and as such I would like to welcome you all on behalf of the whole BESIX family.
I am proud and happy to count you, and all Watpac employees, as one of our colleagues within BESIX. You are part of a true milestone in the history of our group. In its 109 years of existence, BESIX has built a solid reputation for itself in various parts of the world, most notably in Europe and in the Middle East. Similarly, Watpac’s history and reputation in Australia is an achievement in which you should be proud.
From here we now embark on an exciting chapter together.
I’m particularly excited about the potential that this new chapter unlocks for us all, including our clients and partners. Together Watpac will have the breadth and the capabilities to compete more effectively in the Australian market. We’ve just started to make it happen and I count on you to be part of it. We recognise the need to preserve Australian culture and Watpac’s heritage and community connections, and this new chapter will build on Watpac’s globally recognised brand, which will be slightly redesigned to include the famous BESIX ‘flag’.
As for now, it is business as usual, and as such it is important remain focused on our business and do what we all do best: deliver excellence.
As in any transaction of this size, the integration process will take time. Over the past few days we’ve formalised a transition-planning team and will communicate more information to you as quickly as we can on our transition plans. This will be a collaborative process, just as most things are here. In terms of immediate next steps, our focus in on finalising the transaction which is subject to customary closing conditions. All this will take place over the coming weeks and we expect the 100% takeover to be complete before Christmas.
Going forward our purpose remains unchanged: “Excel in creating sustainable solutions for a better world”. In this regard, a key priority is to ensure a great workplace for all of us.
