Dear colleagues,
Let us first express our gratitude and enthusiasm about meeting you all last week, during the friendly barbecue on Thursday and the working session on Friday.
It was great to be #Together, to connect, share, laugh and find energy in being One Team, in search of solutions for playing our second half-time of the year.
As repeatedly said on Friday, we won’t play the second half like we played the first. We have to honestly assess and adjust the way we manage our teams, our projects and ourselves, to end the year 2022 better than what we have achieved in Contracting until now. Whilst Real Estate and Concessions & Assets are performing steadily, Specialized Regional Contractors are collectively delivering what was expected, we cannot but see that Contracting is facing enormous challenges for the moment.
We are not helped by the worldwide pandemic, the war in Ukraine, the supply chain issues, the rapid inflation on the market. It puts a strain on our relationships with clients, partners, subcontractors, on top of the operational strain we already have to deliver complex projects.
We have one common goal in mind: execute our projects according to our top sheets, in line with budget and timing. This remontada can be achieved if we play collective, circulate the ball, test the referee and score fast. Our BESIX culture, if anything, is even more important to help us navigate this challenging season.
Regarding the way we manage our teams and ourselves
You’ll find enclosed the various drawings, text boxes, images, pulse surveys that Alain used during his coaching session. Whatever struck you most in this coaching session (Make the future visible! Intelligence is not contagious, energy is! The clearer the frame, the bigger the freedom! Choice vs No-Choice zones! From Samurai to Ninja! Success is 70% coaching!), we hope you found practical, applicable ideas for your daily coaching tasks.
Regarding the way we manage our projects
You’ll find below a summary of the Gold, Silver and Bronze ideas that you have collectively selected:
- Create eagerness and trust by improving capabilities to give Feedback/Feedforward and incorporating Contracting Management skills: Teams of Nic & Benoit
- "BESIX Transfer Checklist", a complementary tool to optimize the quality and control of a better project startup, including the different stakeholders: Teams of Fabian & Boudewijn
- Engaging teams, through regular clarity on Ambitions at each level, coaching, mentoring, and celebration: Team of Hubert
We have set two intermediate finish lines for these ideas:
- 31 August: a detailed plan of approach (why, who, when, what, budget, tools, result KPIs) for these three work groups must be ready;
- 12 September: these plans must be presented on Executive Committee meeting.
To ensure each idea has a clear chance of success, we have decided on the following frame:
- Use of current available BESIX tools;
- Impact visible by 30 November at the latest;
- Global reach possible, but local implementation;
- We should all be committed to do it!
- In line with Behaviors & Values;
- Measurable improvements (KPIs);
- Business Marketing;
- People Marketing.
As you see, by focusing on these three projects, we create a clear goal to improve as from mid-year and we give trust to the three groups, all together. The three pillars Alain explained to create glue in the teams are present before we stretch!
We have a fantastic company, great teams, and a clear wish to bounce higher as ever before. Together we will succeed to become #Better!
To those that were sick, unable to come due to prior engagements or already on holiday: we want to include you fully into this exercise. We know you are as committed then those that were present to make our company a Champion again.
We will continue to update you on the three selected ideas in the coming months. We will organise a follow-up pit-stop end November/begin December to exchange together on forecast EOY, budget 2023 and realisations of the projects at hand.
Finally, as “feedback is the food of champions”, may we ask 2min. of your time to fill in this survey? This way, our next pit-stop will be (even) more successful. Thank you!
Have a nice holiday, now or later in the summer.
The Executive Committee
