Construction Kangaroo Point Green Bridge in Brisbane reaches new heights

Group 1 min read

Our Australian colleagues from BESIX Watpac have reached an exciting milestone at the Kangaroo Point Green Bridge site in Brisbane! They have successfully installed the four lower legs and cruciform of the impressive mast, the centerpiece of the bridge. This accomplishment marks the halfway point in the mast’s construction and brings us one step closer to completing this iconic infrastructure to Brisbane City Council.

The next phase involves the installation of the mast itself, an engineering marvel comprised of 14 individual components. These will be lifted into place with the use of a large river-based tower crane, a delicate operation which requires utmost precision and coordination to ensure that every component seamlessly fits together. Once fully assembled, the mast will reach a height of 95 meters and weigh a staggering 270 tonnes.

Watch the video below to see the delicate installation of the legs, as well as an impression of what the end result will look like!

Spanning approximately 460 metres across the Brisbane River, the Kangaroo Point Green Bridge is one of the world’s longest single-mast cable-stayed pedestrian bridges. BESIX Watpac, as leader of the Connect Brisbane team, is responsible for the design and construction of this architectural masterpiece.

The bridge connects neighbourhoods of Kangaroo Point and Brisbane Central Business District and will serve as a vital pedestrian and cycling link for commuters, residents and tourists, significantly improving transportation and connectivity in the area.

Stay tuned for more updates as our dedicated Watpac team continues to work tirelessly towards completing this transformative project!
