Celebrating women in mechanical lifting on the Tanga Jetty project

Group 1 min read

On the Tanga Jetty project site in Tanzania, a group of women is thriving in the traditionally male-dominated field of mechanical lifting. Today, we highlight the inspiring journeys of three talented operators: Anneth, Isabela, and Nadhan.

Anneth: A Curious Mind

Anneth, a Rigging Loft Controller, has always been guided by her curiosity. "As a child, I loved exploring and learning how things work," she shares. Her interest in mechanical lifting was sparked by a desire to understand equipment and its purpose. "I like knowing what the equipment does and why it’s used," she explains. Through hands-on training and experience, Anneth has gained the skills to excel in her role. Her goal? To advance and become a lift supervisor in the future.

Isabela: A Determined Engineer

From a young age, Isabela aspired to work in engineering. "I dreamed of being either a pilot or an engineer," she recalls. After earning her degree in Civil Engineering from Ardhi University, Isabela joined the project as a Lifting Engineer. Her journey has been one of continuous learning and growth. "The training and guidance I’ve received have boosted my knowledge and confidence," she says. Isabela encourages women to take initiative and pursue their goals with determination. "Stay focused and don’t give up," she advises.

Nadhan: A Patient Learner

Nadhan, also a Rigging Loft Controller, discovered her passion for mechanical lifting through practical experience. "This opportunity has allowed me to learn hands-on," she says. Her role includes ensuring the safety and compliance of lifting equipment, a responsibility she approaches with dedication. "You need to thoroughly understand the equipment you’re working with," she emphasises. Looking ahead, Nadhan hopes to expand her expertise and take on additional roles in mechanical lifting.

These three women prove that diversity and inclusion enrich every workplace. Their achievements remind us of the power of perseverance and opportunity, and we are proud to celebrate their success!
