Our Executive Vice-President Johan Beerlandt recently had the honour of meeting His Highness Sheikh Humaid bin Rashid Al Nuaimi, Ruler of Ajman, and His Highness Sheikh Rashid bin Humaid Al Nuaimi, Chairman of the Municipality and Planning Department of Ajman. This high-level meeting served to reinforce our longstanding collaboration and commitment to supporting the Emirate’s continued development.

BESIX has been an integral part of Ajman’s infrastructure evolution for several decades. Since the 1970s, we have contributed to the Emirate’s maritime and coastal development, including the construction of the breakwaters for the Port of Ajman, enhancing coastal protection and port accessibility.
In recent years, BESIX has also played an important role in transforming Ajman’s infrastructure, particularly in wastewater management and sustainable energy solutions.
In 2001, BESIX partnered with the Government of Ajman to establish Ajman Sewerage Private Company Limited (ASPCL), addressing the Emirate’s need for modern wastewater treatment facilities. This public-private partnership led to the design, construction, and operation of a comprehensive sewerage system, which today includes an extensive network of pipelines, multiple pumping stations, and a state-of-the-art wastewater treatment plant. ASPCL now processes approximately 120 million litres of wastewater per day, serving a population of 550,000 residents. BESIX continues to oversee operations, ensuring the system’s efficiency and long-term sustainability.
In recent years, BESIX also designed and built the UAE’s first sludge-to-energy plant in Ajman. Completed in 2022 for ASPCL, this innovative facility converts sewage sludge into biogas, generating up to 2.4 MW of electricity, enough to supply up to 50% of the wastewater treatment plant’s energy needs. This initiative not only reduces reliance on the public power grid but also exemplifies a circular approach to waste management.
BESIX’s contributions to Ajman’s infrastructure underscore our long-term commitment to the Emirate’s progress. The opportunity for our Executive Vice-President to meet with the Ruler of Ajman and the Chairman of the Municipality and Planning Department is a strong signal to the trust and recognition that BESIX has earned over the years.
We look forward to many more projects in Ajman, continuing our mission of building sustainable infrastructure for the Emirate of Ajman and its people.
