BESIX, in a joint venture with key MEP provider EQUANS, has been awarded a significant contract to design and construct a cutting-edge data centre in Neder-Over-Heembeek, Belgium, by KevlinX Holding.

KevlinX is a leading provider of high-performance data centres, catering specifically to large-scale enterprise, government and cloud companies requiring flexible colocation or dedicated wholesale space with the highest standards in redundancy, security and energy efficiency.

The scope of the contract encompasses the design and construction of a state-of-the-art, turn-key data centre of 16,000 m². The facility must adhere to internationally recognized accreditations and meet the stringent Tier III Uptime Institute standards. This means meticulous planning and implementation to ensure a high level of reliability and resilience in operations, with redundant components such as backup generators and multiple distribution paths in place to facilitate maintenance without disrupting critical operations.

In the initial phase, the joint venture will deliver a powered Core and Shell capable of accommodating an IT load of 13,75 MW. This requires careful design and execution of the infrastructure to provide seamless support for the power demands of IT equipment of this scale while maintaining efficiency and redundancy for uninterrupted operation. Special attention will be given to power distribution, cooling systems, and electrical wiring.

Upon completion, the site will ultimately accommodate an impressive IT load of 68 MW, developed in four distinct phases. BESIX is proud to be responsible for the first phase of this ambitious project.

Tom Cnudde, Business Development Director at BESIX Belgium-Luxembourg, commented, “This project, developed over several years, showcases BESIX's unwavering commitment and expertise. We are proud to construct infrastructure that meets the ever-growing digital demands of citizens and communities. Data centres are highly complex infrastructure assets, and our team possesses the specialized construction skills required to successfully deliver this critical asset.

The estimated project duration is 20 months, and the contract value amounts to 92 million euros.
