The Steel & Formwork department of BESIX Group has acquired a rebar splicing system. These products, which will be Benor (Belgium), NF (France) and Komo (Netherlands) certified, are now available for all BESIX construction sites and the group's regional and specialised entities in the Benelux-France region.

Using high-precision machines, the rebar splicing system acquired by Steel & Formwork carries out three successive operations: a clean cut of the rebar perfectly perpendicular to its axis, increasing the end section of the bar, which increases its resistance, and finally threading the cold forged part of the bar.

Dirk Stevens, Manager of the Steel & Formwork department : “We are very pleased to add new products to our range. Our couplers are available for all the group's construction sites in Belgium, France, Luxembourg and the Netherlands. The Benor, NF and Komo certifications are the assurance for our colleagues that we manufacture products of impeccable quality. We invite them to contact us now for their orders and for any other information.”

Until then, the group's construction sites had to purchase the couplers from external suppliers. Moreover, in Belgium, for example, there was only one Benor-certified supplier. The integration of this service within the group is therefore excellent news for all of the group's construction sites, ensuring reliability in terms of availability and quality.

What is the purpose of this?

In some reinforced concrete structures, it is necessary to connect reinforcing bars to each other in successive concreting phases without overlapping: they are connected by a coupler, a cylinder screwed to their ends – which requires threading the ends. The use of this type of mechanical connection of reinforcing bars is common in civil engineering projects, but also in some building operations.

Which system is used by BESIX Steel & Formwork ?

The rebar splicing system acquired by BESIX Steel & Formwork is of the BARTEC-brand. You can find more information on the company's website, in particular about the couplers.
