Our teams in Morocco have reached a major milestone: the Mohammed VI Tower in Rabat has been successfully delivered! Now the tallest tower in Morocco, it stands as a new landmark on Africa’s skyline and a great source of pride for BESIX teams. Rising 250 metres above the Bouregreg Valley, this iconic structure illustrates BESIX’s ability to design and deliver very highrise projects in technically demanding environments.
Awarded in 2018 by O TOWER, the project was delivered by BESIX, in joint venture with TGCC, under a Design & Build contract. BESIX assumed overall responsibility for the project, from design and engineering through to procurement and construction, including structural works, façades, advanced electromechanical systems, as well as highend finishes and interior fitout. The delivery of the Mohammed VI Tower marks the culmination of several years of intense work and collective commitment.
BESIX Engineering & Façade team
BESIX engineering teams played a key role in developing robust solutions to address seismic constraints, strong wind loads and risks linked to the proximity of the Bouregreg River. Major challenges successfully addressed include 60-metre-deep foundations, a hybrid concrete-steel structure, and the installation of a 160-tonne tuned mass damper at the top of the tower, ensuring comfort and stability on the upper floors.
The teams also deployed their full expertise on a complex and striking façade, designed and delivered by our inhouse Façade Department. From the glazed curtain wall on the north elevation to the metal panels, sunshading elements and photovoltaic components on the south side, the façade fully contributes to the iconic identity of the Mohammed VI Tower.
The project also integrates advanced MEP systems and refined interior spaces curated by FLAMANT, designed to offer an exceptional experience for future users. The tower will host a Waldorf Astoria luxury hotel, offices, highend apartments and a panoramic observation deck.
