In late February, BESIX’s Prequalification department submitted its contractor accreditation file to the Belgian Ministry of Economy. As a result, BESIX received both renewed and new accreditations, which apply for five years.
The importance of accreditations
Accreditations are essential for contractors to bid for public contracts, as they certify a contractor's technical proficiency and financial stability. Essentially, an accreditation serves as a quality label. Contractors are required to renew their accreditations every five years.
An accreditation does not allow a contractor to carry out just any work for just any amount. Government projects are classified into over 50 categories based on their type and complexity. Examples are ‘Waste water drainage works’, ‘Structural works’, and ‘Equipping pumping and turbine stations’. Each category is further divided into eight classes, ranging from class 1 for works up to €135,000 to class 8 for works over €5,330,000. The government assigns each company to the relevant categories and classes based on their capabilities.
Strong performance
This year, BESIX achieved an impressive 38 accreditations. Notably, 27 of these accreditations are in class 8, the highest category, marking an increase from 24 class 8 accreditations five years ago.
Collectively, the Belgian subsidiaries of BESIX Group obtained 56 accreditations out of a possible 74 categories, including 35 class 8 accreditations.

These accreditations enable BESIX and its subsidiaries to participate in the largest and most demanding projects in Belgium and beyond over the next five years, and reaffirms its leading position in the industry.
