On 1 May 2025, two projects of BESIX were recognised at the 2025 Partnership Awards, one of the industry’s most prestigious events celebrating excellence in Public-Private Partnerships (PPP). Aquafin’s Sludge Mono-Treatment Plant in Ghent won Best Utilities Project, while the R4 Ring Road project contributed to De Werkvennootschap being named Public Sector Promotor of the Year.
Excellence in Public-Private Partnerships
Held annually, the Partnership Awards celebrate the achievements of public and private sector organisations working collaboratively to drive infrastructure projects that create lasting value for communities. Winners are selected through a thorough evaluation process conducted by a diverse panel of industry experts.
Sludge Mono-Treatment Plant wins Best Utilities Project
The Sludge Mono-Treatment Plant, developed by water treatment company Aquafin, represents a significant advancement in sustainable waste treatment. Located in the Port of Ghent, the facility is designed to convert sewage sludge into renewable energy, helping to reduce environmental impact while recovering valuable resources.
The project was awarded to FOSTER, the Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) set up by Indaver and BESIX for this initiative. BESIX and Indaver are responsible for the design, construction, financing, maintenance, and operation of the plant until 2046. Construction began in October 2024. As from 2027, the plant will recover energy from the sewage sludge of 4 million inhabitants, for reuse on site. Two-thirds of all sewage sludge in Flanders will be processed here.

De Werkvennootschap named Public Sector Promotor of the Year
As part of the R4 West and East project, BESIX is supporting De Werkvennootschap’s ambition to reshape mobility infrastructure and enhance connectivity around Ghent. The project is designed to improve traffic flow, elevate road safety, and reduce noise in nearby communities.
Delivered as a Design, Build, Finance and Maintain (DBFM) contract, the project is being carried out by BRAVO4, a consortium made up of BESIX, EPICo, I4B – The Belgian Infrastructure Fund, RID PPP and Stadsbader. The integrated contract includes a 30-year maintenance period, ensuring long-term quality and value.

These awards reflect BESIX’s ongoing commitment to innovation, sustainability and excellence in delivering infrastructure through strong public-sector partnerships. We are proud to contribute to projects that create lasting value for the communities they serve.
