Week of 30 June
1. BESIX’s role in the climate transition
At BESIX, sustainability isn’t just something we talk about, it’s part of how we work every day. We are constantly looking for ways to integrate it in our daily operations and to measure and manage our climate impact through data-driven decisions, operational integration, and a company-wide commitment to people and the planet. Watch the video below (in Dutch) as Geert Aelbrecht, BESIX Group CHRO and ESG Officer explains how we shape a solid climate transition plan, with support from KPMG.
2. First asphalt for Oosterweel Link’s Bypass (Belgium)
In Antwerp, the ROCO joint venture is moving ahead steadily with the construction of the Bypass, the temporary motorway that will accommodate traffic while the Merksem viaduct is being demolished. Last month marked a key milestone, with the first asphalt works getting underway. Nice work, team ROCO!
By the end of 2025, vehicles heading towards the Netherlands will be rerouted via this new stretch. That will pave the way for the viaduct’s demolition and the creation of a lowered, partially underground Ring Road, making room above for parks and green spaces.
3. Contributing to a new transport hub in Howald (Luxembourg)
In the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, LuxTP is making solid progress on the new multimodal station in Howald, working alongside Félix Giorgetti and Tralux. The team is busy building a platform, redeveloping the marshalling yard and taking on the Storage and Maintenance Centre. Things are moving along nicely, with full completion expected by the end of 2026. Keep it up, LuxTP!
4. Impressive operation at St George Hospital (Sydney, Australia)
Our BESIX Watpac team in Sydney has reached a key milestone on the St George Hospital Stage 3 Redevelopment. In just 48 hours, they installed a 27-metre pedestrian link bridge connecting the new Kensington Street Building with the existing Acute Services Building. It is suspended 14 metres above the street and weighs over 28 tonnes! Once complete, the facility will bring various outpatient and ambulatory services under one roof, making it easier for teams to collaborate and improve patient care. Well done to everyone involved!
And then this... Game on!
On 20 June, the BESIX Young Community in Belgium brought colleagues together for its annual football tournament in Mechelen, Belgium. 15 teams competed against each other from all over the Group. Players from BESIX, BESIX Nederland, Socogetra, Vanhout, Jacques Delens, BESIX France and many others assembled in teams to compete for eternal glory. With fans cheering from the sidelines and plenty of food and drinks to go around, the atmosphere was as collegial as it was competitive. In the end, the “Dolphineers” (Engineering) claimed the top spot, with BESIX France and “Franki Foundagoal” (Franki Foundations) rounding out the podium.
And the sports spirit didn’t stop there. Over the past few weeks, various Belgian entities have taken part in other events too. Jacques Delens and Franki Foundations participated in Corporate Hockey, with the former proudly taking second place. Furthermore, Wust, Jacques Delens and Socogetra took part in Batirun by Franki. Hats off to one of Wust’s teams for finishing third!
