Week of 17 March 2025
1. One New Zealand Stadium is taking shape (New Zealand)
Exciting progress in Christchurch, where the One New Zealand Stadium is coming together fast! In the southern area, our BESIX Watpac colleagues are making great strides with the roof and façade cladding, while installation of the stairs in the south stand is well underway. With the stadium’s steel superstructure completed in January, several large cranes and hydraulic support towers are now being deconstructed. Want to know more? Watch the full update in the video below!
2. Final phase for construction pit PALLAS underway (the Netherlands)
In Petten (the Netherlands), our BESIX NL colleagues have reached the final stage of the pit and foundations for the new PALLAS medical isotopes reactor. This facility will secure a reliable supply of medical isotopes for 30,000 patients every day. At the bottom of the pit, 790 tons of steel reinforcement bars are being carefully placed in layers, paving the way for a 1.5-meter thick concrete pour in the coming weeks. Good luck with this final stretch, team PALLAS!
3. Exciting milestone at Aquafin sludge processor (Belgium)
Our team at the Aquafin sludge processing plant in the port of Ghent (Belgium) has reached an exciting milestone, as they successfully poured 1,100 m³ of concrete for the foundation slab of the process hall!
Together with Indaver, BESIX is in charge of the design, build, financing, operation and maintenance of this state-of-the-art facility. From 2027, the plant will recover energy from sewage sludge generated by 4 million residents, processing two-thirds of all sludge in Flanders. Well done, team!
4. Smooth setup at STIB-MIVB’s tram depot (Belgium)
Our colleagues at Jacques Delens have been hard at work renovating the operations building at STIB-MIVB’s Ixelles tram depot. Last week, they tackled a key milestone: installing temporary changing rooms for site staff—in just two days! With live catenaries (1,000 V) and moving trams nearby, it was no small feat. Thanks to smart planning, precise coordination, and special equipment sourced from BESIX’s Material Service Depot, the setup was completed safely and efficiently, ensuring minimal disruption to STIB’s operations. Well done to everyone involved!
