Week of 16 June
1. New milestone for Hyoffwind project (Belgium)
At the port of Zeebruges (Belgium), the first large-scale equipment has arrived and been installed for the Hyoffwind project, Belgium’s first industrial-scale green hydrogen plant. This marks a big moment that officially kicks off the assembly phase, led by BESIX Environment, who are in charge of installing all process-related components. Once operational, the facility will convert renewable electricity from local wind parks into green hydrogen. Starting with a 25 MW capacity, scalable up to 100 MW, it aims to reduce CO₂ emissions by 25,000 tonnes annually. Congratulations, team Hyoffwind!
2. Two years of progress at St George Hospital (Australia)
In Sydney (Australia), BESIX Watpac and its partners have making great progress on the St George Hospital Stage 3 Redevelopment. The timelapse video below captures two years of construction in just a few seconds and gives us a quick glimpse into the huge effort behind the scenes. To date, the team has worked over 473,010 hours, laid 168,000 bricks, installed more than 1,405 m² of glass, and excavated nearly 82,402 tonnes of sandstone – all while operating in a fully operational hospital environment! Impressive, colleagues!
Once finished, the new facility will bring together a wide range of outpatient and ambulatory services, helping improve patient care through better collaboration.
3. Safety milestone for BRAVO4 team (Belgium)
A well-earned celebration took place last week on the R4 ring road project in Ghent, where the BRAVO4 team reached 250,000 workhours without a Lost-Time Incident. This result reflects a strong on-site safety culture and the consistent commitment of everyone involved. The milestone was celebrated the best Belgian way possible: with fresh fries! Great job, team. Let’s keep this momentum going!
The R4 West & East project involves the redesign of 22 intersections to improve traffic flow, safety and sustainability around the city. BRAVO4 consists of BESIX, Stadsbader, Rebel, EPICo and I4B.
4. BESIX Infra Nederland completes road maintenance works in Venlo (the Netherlands)
Last weekend, BESIX Infra Nederland successfully completed the final phase of major maintenance works on the A67 motorway near Venlo (the Netherlands). During the weekend, they replaced about 7,000 tonnes of asphalt to make the road future-proof over a distance of 15 kilometres. And since it all happened over Father’s Day weekend, the dads on site were treated to a little something special. Great job, team!
The works are part of a four-year framework agreement between BESIX Nederland, BESIX Infra Nederland and Rijkswaterstaat for the variable maintenance works in South Netherlands.
And then this... Another successful month for KiddyBuild (Belgium)
May was a great month for Kiddybuild, the hands-on educational initiative by BESIX Foundation that introduces the construction sector primary school pupils in Belgium. In total, 93 children across Belgium explored the exciting world of construction through an interactive workshop. Using the foundation’s bilingual board game Construction Heroes (Les héros de la construction/De helden van de bouw), they learned about the many roles and skills in the sector in a fun and engaging way. This month also marked a first, with a KiddyBuild session held in Antwerp. A big thank you to all the BESIX volunteers who made it happen!
