Week of 16 February

1. Construction takes off at Matisse Living (Belgium)

Construction is now underway at the Matisse Living project in Evere, where our Jacques Delens teams have started building after Franki Foundations completed the deep foundations. Developed by BESIX RED, the project will offer 156 sustainable residential units with strong energy performance, thanks to heat pumps, solar panels, green roofs and optimised water management.

Did you know that Matisse Living is part of a wider mixed‑use development that also includes 20,000 m² of office space, to be built by Vanhout, along with future retail areas and public facilities?

2. Woolworths distribution centre enters its final year (Australia)

In Western Sydney, our BESIX Watpac team has reached the final year of construction on the Woolworths Sydney Chilled and Fresh Distribution Centre. The scale of the work is striking: 47,000 m³ of concrete poured, more than 7,000 solar panels installed, 8.6 acres of roofing sheets laid, and over 2,200 workers inducted to site.

When complete, this 93,000 m² facility will become the largest of its kind in the southern hemisphere, processing more than 6,000 tonnes of produce each day. The project includes chilled and fresh warehousing, ancillary buildings, office space and a four‑storey above‑ground car park, all supported by 23,607 m² of solar panels to help power the site.

3. VIP visit at BESIX NL (the Netherlands)

Last week, our colleagues in the Netherlands welcomed Group CEO Pierre Sironval and Chief People Officer Geert Aelbrecht for a tour across several key projects. The visit included stops at De Nieuwe Meer junction in Amsterdam, the A27 motorway project near Utrecht, POST in Rotterdam and the Krammer Locks in Zeeland. The day also offered a good moment to reflect on BESIX’s ambitions in the Netherlands and how our multidisciplinary expertise supports sustainable and innovative solutions across the region.

4. Celebrating jubilees at Socogetra (Belgium)

Last week, Socogetra gathered to honour their jubilees, colleagues who have been part of the company for 25, 30, 35 and even 45 years. Their dedication has shaped countless projects, supported teams and helped bring ideas to life across the organisation. A warm congratulations to all celebrating a milestone this year, and thank you for your long‑standing commitment to our Group.

And then this... Connecting with future talent at the AUS Career Fair (UAE)

Our BESIX Middle East colleagues took part in the American University of Sharjah (AUS) Career Fair on 10 February, meeting students and alumni exploring their next career steps. The event offered a direct way to discuss roles in construction and engineering, share insights about our projects, and highlight the opportunities within BESIX Middle East. It was a great moment to connect with motivated young talent and introduce them to life at BESIX!
