Week of 16 January

1. Kangaroo Point Green Bridge: pile cap on Pier 4 is cast (Australia)

Last week, our colleagues of BESIX Watpac casted the pile cap of the main Pier 4 of the Kangaroo Point Green Bridge (Brisbane). Due to the heat in Australia our colleagues have decided to pour at night with a steady flow for about 12/13 hours.

As you can see on the pictures it was a well-controlled concrete pour of about 300 linear meters into the river on a temporary gangway construction. The density of the reinforcement was very high up to 1150 kg per m³ due to the massive loads coming down on this pier.

The next critical challenge is the erection of the tower crane in the middle of the river, for info this FAVCO crane is the biggest one in the world and lifts about 280 ton at close range

Exciting times ahead, good luck to all teams involved!

2. Tour Triangle: first drops of concrete for the raft (France)

Our BESIX France team on the project of Tour Triangle in Paris have reached a major milestone last Friday, as they executed the first of a veeeeery long series of concrete pours. The Tour Triangle is a 180 metre high tower in Paris that will include office spaces and a conference centre, as well as a cultural centrum, health centra, a day care, hotel and restaurant. It stands out because of its unique triangle form and will add another icon to the Parisian skyline.

Congratulations with this fantastic milestone, team!

3. Abobo Tunnel: last drops of concrete on the raft (Ivory Coast)

While the Tour Triangle team celebrated their first concrete pour of the project, our team in Abidjan have poured their very last concrete of the raft of the Abobo Tunnel! This means that the 560 metre long raft is now finished! In total, the team has poured 11,740 m³ of concrete. Big congratulations!

The Abobo Tunnel is part of the development of the Abobo Town Hall roundabout and has three lanes in each direction. It will significantly improve the accessibility of the Abidjan metropolitan area. We are in charge of the civil works of the tunnel.

4. Rail Baltica: last precast beam on the bridge over Lāčplēša street (Latvia)

In Latvia as well, the team had reasons to celebrate this week, as they successfully completed the installation of the precast beams on the bridge over Lāčplēša Street.

The Rail Baltica Central Station project in Riga (Latvia) includes the construction of the new central station building, a major railway bridge on the Daugava river, the railway embankments and track works. We are in charge of the design and build.

And then this... A very nice shot demonstrating team spirit on Tour Triangle!

Look at this amazing conga line 😊

All these employees featuring in this videoa are from different companies working on the Tour Triangle site, including colleagues from BESIX, Atlas Fondation, Franki Foundations, peers from SPIE, etc.

In a case of all hands on deck, this 30 metre-long cable meant for the traction cables has been dragged to its right position during a precious moment of team spirit.
