Week of 13 July

1. Building local capacity for future projects in Queensland (Australia)

Before the first shovel hits the ground, the real groundwork often happens in conversations. In Cairns and Townsville, our BESIX Watpac teams brought together subcontractors and suppliers for a series of ‘Major Projects Ready’ events, focused on what lies ahead. Across the sessions, participants openly discussed capability gaps, practical barriers, and how to strengthen collaboration in the region.

It’s a reminder that delivering complex projects starts long before construction begins with strong local networks and shared understanding. By investing in these relationships, the teams are helping ensure that North Queensland is ready for the next wave of opportunities. A sincere thank you to everyone who contributed to these constructive and forward-looking exchanges.

2. A simple gesture with a powerful impact (Belgium)

A simple gesture with a powerful impact. The principle is well known, yet the reality remains striking: every donation can save lives. At Socogetra, our colleagues came forward one after another, driven by the same motivation and turning an individual act into a collective effort giving blood.

At their offices, they welcomed the Belgian Red Cross for a full day dedicated to blood donation. The initiative is a reminder that solidarity goes beyond our construction sites and projects; it also lives in simple, tangible actions that are within everyone’s reach. A big thank you to everyone who took the time to take part in this vital initiative, and to the Red Cross for their support.

3. Safety Walk at Aramco Stadium (Saudi Arabia)

Last week, our CEO Pierre Sironval walked the Aramco Stadium site alongside project teams for a hands-on progress review and safety walk. Moving from one work zone to the next, discussions centred on planning, coordination, and one subject that remains front of mind for everyone on site: safety.

Moments like these where leadership connects directly with colleagues in the field reinforce a shared responsibility: looking out for one another and never compromising on safe practices.

4. Bouwcampus 2.0 steps up biobased construction (Belgium)

The first foundation piles have been successfully installed by our colleagues at Franki Foundations in Diepenbeek , a symbolic yet very concrete start for Bouwcampus 2.0. This project sets the bar high: at least 55% of the building will consist of biobased or non-virgin materials. By combining a timber structure with concrete cores made from recycled concrete, it demonstrates how innovation and stability can go hand in hand.

Together with partners such as Heidelberg Materials and Buildwise, we are actively exploring new solutions that go beyond current standards. The campus will become a place where companies, researchers and students come together to build the future of our sector. A strong step forward towards sustainable and energy-positive construction.

And then this... More than a song

More than a song,“Besix Middle East, Our Pride, Our Name” is a tribute in rhythm, a soundtrack to decades of iconic projects and shared achievements across the region.
Written and created by colleague Nelson Telan, Planning Manager by day and storyteller by heart, it captures the journeys, the teams and the spirit behind the structures.

Turn up the volume, and take it all in. 🎧
