Week of 10 March 2025

1. Raising Awareness on Crystalline Silica at Triangle (France)

Preventing occupational hazards is a top priority on our sites. With this in mind, our team at the Triangle project in Paris (France) dedicated two days to raising awareness about exposure to crystalline silica, a natural mineral found in construction materials that poses a hazard to workers when inhaled. A total of 330 employees participated in two key workshops. The first focused on understanding crystalline silica, its risks, and the essential measures to reduce exposure. The second, organised with the support of HILTI, provided hands-on guidance on minimising exposure through proper vacuum cleaning techniques on-site. A great initiative for a safer workplace!

2. Start works Lambermont viaduct (Belgium)

In Verviers (Belgium), our team has officially begun the rehabilitation of the Lambermont Viaduct, which is part of the E42/A27 motorway. The project aims to enhance the safety and durability of this vital infrastructure while minimising disruption through a fast and efficient work methodology. Among others, works include repairing the deck slab, replacing expansion joints, installing guardrails with noise barriers, and widening the viaduct to create broader emergency stopping lanes. Best of luck, colleagues!

3. Delivery and new project alert for BESIX Watpac (Australia)

In Sydney (Australia), BESIX Watpac has successfully completed the upgrade of the Greenwich Point and South Mosman wharves! The new structures feature new floating pontoons, covered stairs, gangways, jetties and lifts, which greatly enhances accessibility to all users. These upgrades are part of the broader Ferry Wharf Upgrade Programme Tranche 3, which includes a total of six wharves. Check out the final results in this video.

And as one project wraps up, another begins! Our colleagues in Australia have also announced that they will be building a brand-new flour mill in Ballarat, near Melbourne. Double congratulations, BESIX Watpac!

4. Sustainable innovation by Atlas Fondations (France)

Franki Foundations’s entity in France, Atlas Fondations, has successfully tested and validated an innovative natural formwork technique for secant pile walls! Until now, polystyrene was used for pile formwork, which is a labour-intensive and less environmentally friendly solution. This new approach, made entirely from natural materials, offers a faster and more efficient installation while also reducing the risk of errors thanks to an intuitive colour-coding system. Great work, colleagues!

And then this... Celebrating women in INSIDE!

Last Saturday, on 8 March, the world celebrated International Women’s Day. In the light of this event, we interviewed several of our colleagues to hear their stories, experiences, and perspectives as women on diversity in our industry. Their insights are featured in the latest edition of INSIDE, which was released earlier this week!

You can access the digital version of the magazine on our intranet now, with this cover story on pp. 8-11.
