Week of 29 April

1. Last launch for flyover A16 Rotterdam underway (the Netherlands)

Last week, our colleagues in Rotterdam commenced the launch of the final segment of the 400-metre-long flyover! Implementing the Incremental Launching Method, this infrastructure is progressively pushed across the Terbregseplein, crossing several important traffic axes. Go, team A16!

As part of the De Groene Boog consortium, BESIX NL is in charge of the design, built, financing and 20-year maintenance of the A16, a new 11-kilometre-long highway in the north of Rotterdam which includes an energy-neutral tunnel.

2. James Cook University’s Engineering and Innovation Place delivered (Australia)

Onto our colleagues in Australia, who have recently wrapped up works at the new Engineering and Innovation Place for James Cook University in Townsville (Australia)! This state-of-the-art building is the centrepiece of the university’s innovation hub, providing a collaborative space for STEM fields to come together, innovate and learn. Also, it’s the third building BESIX Watpac has realised for the university. Impressive!

3. 20.000 pile foundations installed by Franki Foundations for INEOS (Belgium)

On April 24, our colleagues of Franki Foundations and their partner De Waal Solid Foundations reached achieved a significant accomplishment for Project One: they successfully installed the 20.000th pile foundation!

Project One involves the realisation an ethane cracker in the Port of Antwerp-Bruges for INEOS, one of the largest chemical producers globally. The foundations executed by Franki Foundations will support future installations and infrastructure. To reduce noise and vibrations, they used a special 'screwing' technique. Congratulations to our deep foundation specialists!

4. BESIX Unitec contributes to expansion railway line Ghent-Bruges (Belgium)

BESIX Unitec and its partners, working for TUC Rail and Infrabel, are playing a key role in widening the railway line that connects Ghent to Bruges in Belgium. They're not just adding one, but two new tracks! This line is the most heavily used in Belgium, with around 250 trains running on it every day. By adding these extra tracks, both passenger and cargo trains will be more evenly spread out across the line, which will improve both timeliness and safety.

Discover what this project is all about in this video published by TUC Rail on LinkedIn (Dutch, with French subtitles).

And then this… Team Mohammed VI Tower conquers Rabat Half Marathon (Morrocco)

Last week, BESIX-TGCC team working on the Mohammed VI Tower in Rabat took on the challenge to run the Rabat Half Marathon or the associated 10 km race. Amidst their busy schedules, they pushed their limits together and supported each other every step of the way. As one of the participants testifies: “The spirit of camaraderie and determination was palpable as we tackled each kilometer, fueled by our shared passion for both personal and collective achievement.” What a team, what an accomplishment!

P.S.: you can spot the Mohammed VI Tower on the first picture!
