Dear colleagues,
We are very pleased to announce that Jeroen Philtjens has been appointed, as of today, as Project Director for the Temporary JV ROCO, the most important sub-project of the Oosterweel junction. Jeroen has held the position of Director at BESIX Nederland for the past 7 years. Nic De Roeck, Area Manager Europe with more than 7.5 years of experience at BESIX Group, will take the helm at BESIX Nederland as Director.
Earlier this year it was announced that BESIX, as part of the Temporary Joint Venture ‘Rechteroever Compleet (TM ROCO)’, will co-construct the project ‘Rechteroever’, or Right Bank, a sub-project of the overarching Oosterweel project. The ‘Rechteroever’ sub-project forms, via the Oosterweel intersection, the link between the Scheldt tunnel and the R1, both in the Northern and Eastern directions. BESIX will work together with Cordeel, DEME, Denys, Franki Construct, Jan De Nul, Van Laere, and Willemen Infra. The ‘Rechteroever’ sub-project is the second sub-project of the Oosterweel link in which BESIX is involved.
Unprecedented in its size and complexity, ‘Rechteroever’ will help define and influence BESIX's role in Flanders for the next 10 years. As one of the major players in the Belgian market, BESIX is particularly proud to be leading this enormous sub-project of what is being called the construction site of the century. It is therefore fantastic news that Jeroen, with his many years of experience at BESIX, will be taking the lead. His nomination was decided in consultation with the other parties involved in the project. They all expressed their confidence in Jeroen's knowledge and experience. In his new role, Jeroen will report to Jean Polet on an internal level, and to the Board of Directors of JV ROCO at project level.
Jeroen holds a Master's degree in Civil Engineering, obtained at the K.U. Leuven in 1998. Immediately after his studies, he started working at BESIX, where he has now been employed for 22 years. He has worked on several major civil engineering projects in the Netherlands, such as the Bijlmer station in Amsterdam. In 2004 he moved on to project management of the Roertunnel, among others, and then acted as project director of Sluizen Limburg. The next step followed in 2009 when he took over as Operations Manager Civil Engineering for a period of 4 years. As from 2014, Jeroen has headed BESIX Nederland as Managing Director.
We would like to thank Jeroen for his boundless commitment and undeniable contribution to BESIX in the Netherlands. Under his reign, BESIX Nederland has experienced a period of growth, characterized by an emphasis on maintaining good client relationships, specific attention to sustainability, and implementing innovative solutions that have repeatedly served as an inspiration for other parts of our group. With the construction of the ‘house of BESIX’ in Dordrecht, he emphasized BESIX's position as a full-fledged player in the Dutch market.
Nic holds a Master’s degree in Civil Engineering, obtained at the K.U. Leuven in 1997, and looks back on a career of already more than 23 years. Between 2004 and 2008, he worked for BESIX Group on several projects in the Middle East and in Cameroon as Project Manager. In Qatar, he worked on the Khalifa stadium in Doha, helped to put the island ‘The Pearl’ on the map and he helped to establish concrete supplier United Readymix. After an intermezzo at Jan De Nul, where Nic followed and executed international and complex projects both from postings abroad (Saudi Arabia, Ghana, Sweden) as well as in Belgium, he came back to work for BESIX Group in 2017 as Area Manager. Nic has achieved many notable successes these last few years, such as entering new markets in Scandinavia (Denmark, Norway) and Eastern Europe (Riga Central Station in Latvia) and overseeing diverse works in more established countries such as Poland (Vistula Spit) and Montenegro (Lustica Bay). In his new role, Nic will report to Jan Van Steirteghem. His successor as Area Manager Europe will be announced shortly.
We have the utmost confidence in Nic taking up this new challenge within our group, and we wish him every success in his new tasks. He will be able to count not only on Jeroen but also on Jan Van Steirteghem for guidance in this transition.
Join us in congratulating Jeroen and Nic on their new positions within BESIX Group! We wish them all the best in their future projects and endeavors.
Jean Polet, General Manager Key Projects
Jan Van Steirteghem, General Manager Business Unit Europe
