Dear colleagues,
You have most likely become aware of recent press articles referring to ongoing judicial proceedings involving Etablissements Jean Wust S.A. and some of our colleagues.
Such media coverage may understandably be perceived as negative or concerning. We therefore believe it is important to provide you with some context and clarification, in the interest of transparency and team serenity.
Yesterday, a first hearing was held before the Criminal Court of Charleroi. It was notably devoted to the pleadings of the Public Prosecutor. This is a normal step in any judicial procedure. At this stage, only the arguments of the Public Prosecutor have been presented. The defence has not yet set out its position and will do so mid-April.
No judgment has therefore been delivered, and the proceedings are ongoing. The presumption of innocence fully applies, including until any decision on appeal.
The managers concerned, and the Group more broadly, are cooperating transparently with the authorities, in strict compliance with the legal framework, in order to ensure the proper conduct of the proceedings and that full clarity is achieved in this matter.
In this context, BESIX Group wishes to reaffirm its full confidence in and unwavering support for the management of Wust and Socogetra.
We understand that the tone of certain articles may raise questions or concerns. We would nevertheless like to reassure you that:
- these proceedings have no impact whatsoever on the continuity of Wust’s activities;
- teams can continue their work with confidence and peace of mind;
- management is closely monitoring the situation and will communicate responsibly should new elements so require.
Out of respect for the serenity of the ongoing judicial proceedings, the Group will not make any further public comments at this stage. We also thank you for exercising the utmost restraint and for not relaying information, comments or personal interpretations, particularly on social media.
If you have any questions or are approached by the media on this matter, we invite you to refer either to the BESIX Group Communication Department (communication@besix.com), which is the only entity authorised to speak on behalf of the Group companies. If you receive any questions from clients, please refer to your line manager.
We thank you in advance for maintaining a calm and professional approach in the days and weeks ahead, and we naturally remain attentive to any questions or needs you may have.
