Kom op Tegen Kanker is a Belgian initiative that campaigns throughout the year for better cancer prevention, treatment and care, and for the right of everyone to live in a healthy environment. To make this possible, substantial human and financial support is needed. That is why thousands of people, companies and teams commit each year to raise funds and show their solidarity in the fight against cancer.
One of the best-known initiatives is 1000 km voor Kom op Tegen Kanker, a four-day cycling event that brings together teams from across the country, united by a shared cause. This year again, colleagues from the BESIX Engineering Department (BED) are proudly taking part.
From 14 until 17 May 2026, BESIX colleagues will cycle a total of 1,000 km over four days. Each participant completes one loop of 125 km, riding in a peloton at a steady pace that is achievable for anyone who is reasonably fit. Support and refreshments are provided along the route.
Beyond the sporting aspect, the event is known for its warm atmosphere, strong team spirit and shared motivation to support a good cause.
Our colleagues are still looking for 6 cyclists to join the teams:
- Thursday afternoon – 14 May: Pajottegem → Mechelen (2 places)
- Friday afternoon – 15 May: Maaseik → Mechelen (1 place)
- Saturday morning – 16 May: Mechelen → Wingene (1 place)
- Sunday morning – 17 May: Mechelen → Eeklo (2 places)
